My friend has died. Together we saw the world, but recently she took a fall and like Humpty Dumpty all the kings men could not put her back together again.

My friend was my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4 and I loved her, well, it. Small, easy, reliable and always ready to record our adventures.

It was my fault and I have yet to forgive myself for it. I was at my son's concert trying to place the camera on a ledge to video the band when I slipped and took the camera with me. It fell to the floor, battery and SD card escaping and never woke again.

Hoping to find something wrong like a loose wire I downloaded the service manual and started the autopsy. I didn't find anything wrong, but learned a lot in the process. Just like it to keep teaching me even in death.

I loved that camera and will always cherish the memories we shared. Rest in peace my friend. Rest in peace.

Jarred to death, sorry.

Now, now let's stay focused here, and not be negative. I have not heard of a muffler bearing since auto shop when I was in high school.

Oh. Then you probably remember how to hop up a car by adding double overhead fan belts and high speed rear bumper guards.

Sorry for your loss. It looks like you performed a good forensic autopsy.
We all hope you can pick up the pieces and move on.

ThomasS, not to mention the 5hp per Thrush Muffler and Summit Racing decals. Remember the classic curb feelers?

<sigh> I feel yer sprain!! My trusty Kodak DC-4800 went the same route as I was taking photos in the attic. One false step back - and my foot went between the rafters and through the gyp-board ceiling over the dining room (fortunately the rest of me did not follow!). Zoom mechanism hit the floor, jammed - never to run again :(
Fortunately - I found it's brother on E-Bay and gave it a new home. I have about 6 batteries and chargers for the thing, a 7 and 10 diopter close up lens, and a wide angle attachment just for fun.
I had to take the dead one apart - just as you did - - but couldn't get down to the lens nitty gritty. I frequently still use the replacement DC-4800 for quick shots on items I post on E-Bay. GREAT color!!
I managed to repair the ceiling myself - darn good thing I didn't go through - - It's a 10 foot drop !!
Your autopsy was more thorough than mine - - I couldn't go on - - :-(
.
Photos of the disaster were taken by the replacement DC4800.

Yes, but mine were high speed, racing curb feelers. I was convinced they made my flathead V8 run better; silly me.

DANG !! You know - - the whole reason I posted my attic adventure above was the need to inform everyone about the
.
RetroEncabulator.
.
When you need to power your camera (and - of course - your unilateral phase detractors) by the modial interaction of magnetoreluctance and capacitive diractance instead of the relative motion of conductors and fluxes, the RetroEncabulator is the only option !!
