This is now a composite since I added the lamp post on the right side to justify lighting on the street car passengers. Also, I added a little bit of sepia tone. For anyone that is interested in comparing the two images here is the link to the first thread of 'Midnight Express'.

David, I like this one much better. There seems to be more balance to this image. The tonal values are quite appropriate and add to the drama of the scene.

Second photo has a "smokier" look to it. I actually prefer the first one and I don't mind that you can't see the light source. It is night time and could be coming from anywhere.

I love this. Not so much that we needed to see the light source, but having 3 bright areas encourages my eye to move around more. Super creativity!

this was my thinking also. For me, the simpler lighting was better. The current X of light grabs too much attention, and the passengers have become a focal point instead of a found surprise. Too much symmetry. I like the earlier coming out of the darkness into a patch of light look.

Moody, mysterious, period looking image of a San Francisco cable car.

Did you make changes to the horizontal or is this one of the flatter sections of a cable car route?

Thank you ebunner!!! I'm amazed at the difference of opinions between the two images. I personally think that's great for if everyone had the same opinions things would be awfully boring.

Thank you Robert !!! I'm not sure I understand your question. I didn't make any changes to the street car. I just added a street light. Everything else is the same except the pp is a little different.

I went back and forth several times between the 2 versions you posted. My conclusion was to embrace your first rendition. I believe the first one has more mood built into it. Late, dark evening with the fog moving in. The second looks over processed harsh to much contrast. Sometimes my first is the best then I over think it and keep processing to a fault.

That is a Cable Car, they run on the steeper hills where a regular street car can't get traction. Their routes are mostly much steeper than in your picture, except at the bottoms of the hills and on the tops. I thought you might have leveled the horizontal aspect of the picture.

Thank you Jim!!! A lot of times when I get started I don't know when to stop and therefore I overlook things and yes, it gets over processed. I'll have to learn to create a stopping point app. Is that even possible? I appreciate your comments and honesty.

Oh, ok Robert. Now I understand. No, this car was on level ground at the end of the line but yes it does run on steeper hills. Hope that answers your question or I hope I explained it well enough. I'm not all that familiar with the cable cars. I did no leveling of the horizon.
