Hi, Photogrl57!

In manual focus, would the camera not beep at the same focus point that it would have if it had been in autofocus?

I have wondered about this since I got my Canon T3i in February. I have run some tests but haven't been able to tell the difference. My vision is actually getting pretty bad.

Thank you.

Burton

Mine doesn't beep in auto focus .. the red light comes on but not the beep. Did you adjust the diopter for your eyesight. My vision isn't that good anymore either .. I wear trifocals and I have a problem with depth perception. Adjusting the diopter made a big difference in my photos. Perhaps try shooting in full auto and see it that helps.

I hardly ever use manual focus. My eyes are just too bad for that unless the subject is very close and clear. For the tests that I mentioned, I would use manual focus and listen for the beep (and watch for the green light in the bottom right of the viewfinder) then turn the autofocus on and press the shutter release half way and watch for any change in focus. I would do the same thing over, only then I would watch the focus ring (in step 2) to see if it moved. I could never see any change.

My left eye is practally gone; I can see some light with it. Photography would sure be more difficult if I had lost my right eye instead. I DO count my blessings!

I enjoy your posts.

hey Burton, I wear glasses too and contacts, but I don't trust my manual, I think I am moving the camera but also I am learning the silly F-stops and I am working on that. This is trying! THX for your input.
