Title reference is not to the lady in the Beatles song :)

Oh wow, Randy, what a compelling image! Such imagination and artistry.

Bright processing, but for me a dark mood - a message of dashed dreams, freedom denied. That probably sounds trite; I don't like to spend too much time accessing my left brain when my response is emotional :)

Thank you Linda.... :) I think you got the message.. It can also be seen as leaving the past behind in quest of a new life...

The chained bird and the broken pieces of clock are what my response was about. Will be fascinating to read other viewpoints! So glad you posted here for feedback.

I guess my title reference was to the bird that was once inside the clock, but I prefer the viewer make it their own message... :) I do now see what you are seeing...

Beautiful work, Randy! Exquisite detail, as yours always seem to have, and excellent use of light and shadow. The title is perfect - the door is open, and the cuckoo is not among the various parts in the jumbled pile. It's fun to pick out the pieces, though, and especially liked the clock hands.

I'm interested to know how much of this was found as is, and how much you applied your own artistic composition skills to.

Really nice image, thanks for letting us in on it.

This image is exquisitely done Randy your skills and ability to see….amaze. No comments of improvement are possible.

Since I have been know to be a bit dense and with all the talk lately of pictures telling stories or not, I must say when I view an image I don’t immediately figure out a story. I first try to absorb the image…..the composition, texture, perspective, subject, and such. This starts to evoke a feeling for the image. Then whether contrived or not a story may arise. This image will evoke many stories no doubt.

Thank you so much Minnie... :) This was a broken clock a cheap one mind you that had many issues.. I have a couple nicely made and working small ones though... I dissembled this the other day and did this arrangement at 5:30 am this morning... It must have been on my mind all night since I do not sleep well...

Thank you so much Frank... :) The story is what ever you want to make it... My title is only my initial thought when I arranged it...

Great image! - and you need to find a new clock repair person, the old one isn't so good.

Always like looking at your "trademark" lighting and the way it gives dimension and mood to your subjects.

As for the metaphor, I'm with you. It always troubled me that the bird in these contraptions, after completing its task, was once again imprisoned behind a rapidly slamming door.

Hi, Randy,
Another exceptional "character study" of the detritus of civilization.
The box has long since become a familiar feature, and leads me to wonder if you've been influenced by Cornell's "box sculptures"?
