Cliffs contre jour to play with.
I didn't have any particular plan in mind when I took this shot, but I think there might be potential of sorts in there somewhere. And there's a decidedly blown patch in the clouds to help you keep your hand in.
I'm planning on turning this one into a keeper, so I'd be interested in seeing what you can make of it.

What a gorgeous shot, R.G.!
I used Topaz Adjust, Spicify and I think it brought out all sorts of beautiful colors! Hope you like and thanks for letting my play!
Spectacular scene, R.G.!
I used the dng, opened in PSE 13's version of ACR, where I lightened shadows and darkened highlights.
A layer of Topaz Detail, some light cloning of clouds over the sun, some selective lightening of frothy water and other.
Thank you!
I realized the sky was still blown out on my first post, so here's another attempt....

Hi R.G.
I am fairly certain that this version is not anywhere near what you had in mind - especially if you want it to be a "keeper."
However, I think the over all effect is too sharp and harsh with little detail in the rocks. Having very few pixels with which to work causes problems for me and my editing system. But I did the best I could under the circumstances.
All I have done is employ some diffusion, open up the blacks and fill in white spots. And cloned some texture into the bright spot on the right side of the frame.
I realize it's most likely not what you are looking for but it's my interpretation of the magnificent location you photographed. I couldn't resist you invitation to present it. It ain't spectacular, I know.
Of course I could do the same thing without the diffusion.
RG's Photograph a la JH.
I have no idea what DNG is and when I clicked on it I got a bunch of sign up stuff I'm not interested in doing.
Sorry. Results of a very cluttered mind.

Very nice shot RG thanks for the chance to play!
Thanks for the fiddle tim. I thought it might look neat as a night time photo. I worked it in PS CC 2015 along with the ACR filter.
Night time playtime
Processed with LR3 and CS5 using the jpg post.
Used various sliders in LR to lighten and tint the photo.
In CS5 did a few copy and pastes in the sky, and then used the mixer brush to blend the paste into the surrounding clouds.
No more backlighting, which I miss from the original.
Noise control was a big problem and did as much as I could to correct some of it.
Interesting the upload has darkened.

Thank you Angela. I think this is very much how a painter would have rendered it. And what painter doesn't come back for a re-touch or two.

Thank you Linda. This is very much how I see my own edit going. Thanks for contributing.
