Southern California, a quaint little artsy town in the mountains above Banning called Oak Glen. Among the many quaint shops, I looked off to the woods. By the highway, I noticed a gathering of acorn woodpeckers. This so reminded me of the way we gather and shoot the bull..but acorn woodpeckers are socialistic, with 8 woodpeckers taking care of this one nest. I have other shots, but am still really trying to figure out how to navigate the site and upload to the right place.

Very nice photo. They are the only members of the woodpeckers that have family groups. Very vocal and destructive to sides of barns and houses in some areas. Much of their habitat is being lost because people cut and prune dead limbs from their trees when they see them. I try to leave all dead limbs on the trees in our yard for the birds unless they are a possible danger if they fall.
