art a skill for doing a particular thing "photography" the art of photography is the skill. "the art of photography" was not originally meant to be some abstract pp mess. Photography use to record history we have destroyed that and call it art, ba humbug

I totally understand what you are saying...so you shouldn't do any of the pp! I love to grow and try new things...isn't that how all new discoveries are made? Some develop, some use, some do both! :) Have a great day! :)

film bah humbug. real photographers shoot coated glass plates. that whipersnapper george eastman and his darn brownie camera and rolled film, its a fad i tell you. along with horseless cariages and men flying. I hate to tell you this but abstract photography was around along time before photoshop was invented. shoot what you like with what ever camera you want, just don't put down other photographers who like technology.

Dean, I couldn't agree with you more... To take an excellant photo, change it , to me puts that photo into a NON-Photography catagory...

I have to humbly disagree. Post Processing is no different than the darkroom work some of us learned to do back in the film days.

I don't think you meant it this way but to stand by that statement 100% then technically you have never taken a photo.

got to see it. Just like Justice Potter Stewart said about porn. I can't describe it but I know it when I see it.

If you don't like PP...then don't shoot Jpgs...that's processed in the camera.

Shoot RAW and post them...we'd love to see what you come up with.

That dosen't mean diddly squat.... I don't give a hoot and a holler weather you're using the film days of processing or today's digital, when a photo is autered to the point of almost not reconizing it as a photo, THAT is what the disscussion is all about....

I think you are right...I missed that part of the OP's post...

The OP isn't talking about ANY PP...just the WAY OVERDONE PP that turns a photo into an abstract painting.

I get it.

I have seen some amazing stuff in PP that stands as art in its own right...like using photos to make a collage...one medium is used to make a new one.
AND WHAT ABOUT BLACK AND WHITE? That is not how my eyes see things.
There is documentary photography and there is definately room in the art world for PP...just might not be for everyone.
