A couple year ago I was able to down load a digital copy of a D90 camera manual. Today I wanted to do the same for a D7000. OOP's There were many manuals listed for sale at $9.00 ea but not even a hard copy for the D7000. I want a digital copy for my laptop so I don't have to lug the manual I already own around. Does anyone know where a digital copy migh be found?

nikon still offers free downloads for discontinued cameras, lenses and acsesories like flash guns. for current models it is not unreasonable for them to expect payment on manuals or any other acsessory. I like the fact that i could download for free the manualsfor my d-100, n-90x,sb-20 etc. Think of it this way you invested how much for that camera? will an extra 9.00 break you?

I get a bit impatient from time to time. I did more searching and found it at http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/kie88335f7869dfuejdl=-cww2/D7000_EN.pdf

It is a rather big file! At least I have it now. Thanks to those responding to this "old lady".

I was going to say that you should be able to get pretty much any of their manuals. I followed your directions awhile back and was able to get a pdf copy of the manual for my P500 I could download to my computer for free. The only way to get the manual from them in the first place was to use it on the cd they sent with the camera and then if you wanted a printed version they told you to print it yourself. Printing it for myself was fine, but they made the cds they sent out so that you couldn't download and keep the manual on the computer. You had to stick the cd in every time. Well I have a netbook I want to use while traveling and guess what no cd drive. So now I can download the manual and have it there and not have worry about the crazy cd.

Actually I feel that when I spend $500 or $5,000 for a product they have no business expecting me to spend an additional $9 for instructions on how to use it...

Last time I checked they had two versions of each manual. One was available to anyone but couldn't be printed, the other required you to register your cameras serial number to download but allowed printing. I'm quite satisfied with that arrangement. I pay $1,400 for a camera, I get a high res manual that's printable (if I wanted to print it...) I don't generally use printed manuals much, the digital is more convenient.

I have pdf copies of almost every manual I need for cameras, tools, appliances, etc. Really handy looking something up, and I always know where they are. If there is no pdf available, I scan them.

Go here for an app to get Nikon manuals:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/manual-viewer/id468999172?mt=8

Works great on my iPod and should be even better on an iPad.

I noticed that with one manual I wanted to download - I forget which - I needed a serial number to download the printable copy. I got the non-printable version, but I eventually bought the camera, so I also got the complete version. There's no way I would want to print the entire manual, but it would be handy printing a page or two to bring on a shoot.

Right. I had forgotten about that. That's a very nice app, a bit better than straight pdf. It does not cover the older Nikons, so I guess I'll have to sell my old cameras and get new ones.

A paper manual is inconvenient at best, and I have downloaded all of my Nikon manuals at no cost. If they do start charging, I would prefer that they forego the paper one and give me a code for a one-time download instead.

I really like the "bookmark" feature. Nice to have my D90 manual available on my belt.
