I just completed a brief photo shoot and my subject told me, "Your camera takes such good pictures." Perhaps I should have just sent the camera? At least she was happy with the results, but perhaps I should have just sent the camera on its own - after all, it did all the work.
I know this has been discussed before - just had to vent!

Or, next time you go on a photo shoot, you leave your camera at home.
I hope you know I said this in fun.

There is an old joke, (not originating with me) where a subject tells the photographer this exact comment - "Your camera takes great pictures!" Later, the photographer was invited to a dinner party at the subject's home. The photographer commented to the subject, "Your stove makes such great food!"

Allie, maybe your delivery is not very good!! It's wonderful and important that that they really like the results, which you say they did. Maybe your delivery and engagement needs to improve or needs to change. It's not enough to just do good photography. You need to sell yourself as well.
I know far to many photographers that do great work but are they themselves duds!!
You and your work need to be equals. Just my opinion!! ;-)

As a skydiver I've had many people ask me: What if your parachute doesn't open, as if that is almost certain to happen? I just smile and tell them that, if I'm lucky, the dropzone will give me back the cost of the airplane ride! The point is, they are concerned, but uninformed, and I am not insecure enough to resent, what is to me, a silly question. Just as you shouldn't be insecure enough to resent an uninformed compliment. She meant well. That's all that matters.

Truely, I don't resent the comment, I just find it amusing. And I'm happy that the photos pleased her.

Why get upset. Why not point out why your camera lens can give background blur with such great Bokeh. Or other features it has over their phone camera. Of curse you mention that you have to have the skill to use the features your camera has. - Dave

Your comments just generated a thought in my rusty mind, a possible retort:

"You're right; it does take wonderful pictures. And I'm so thankful for having the skills to use its myriad of features."

Someone close to me said much the same. My response, "yes it is a great camera, it does everything I TELL it to do". Nuf said.

Better yet, leave the camera home and go with a pad and pencil. then maybe there will be an understanding that you camera did have a play in things.

And then there are those who say they don't see the difference in images taken with an I- phone camera and an expensive DSLR.

Don't be such a fuss, of course she was complementing YOU. After all, are you not THE CAMERA?
