As the snow was letting up this morning I ventured out to shoot some wintry images. I knew if I wanted the snow still on the trees I'd have to hurry. This image of our local creek is color, but certainly looks B/W. You may notice some streaks in the sky and on the water. Those are snow flakes.

Sometimes the world is B&W. This one is shot in color also
It's a B&W world

Likewise with this one I took a few years ago.
Your processing/conversion has given it a rather nice IR look. Speaking as a guy acclimatized to tropical weather looks cold wet and uninviting my man.
Good post.

Billy....
If you were making a reference to my posting of the Railroad Trestle --- Sorry to inform that the photo displayed here was NOT converted to B&W -- This is how it looked in the camera... This IS a color photograph ... Just so happens that there is not hardly any "color" in it. I put this up as to exemplify that some places do "look" as if there are B&W. This was taken with a Sony 717 5 megapixel camera .. one of my first digital. It could only capture in jpg and tiff. I did bring it into Photoshop CS-5 to brighten it a little and size to fit.
If you did not refer to the trestle photo - ignore this.
Thank you.
P.S. = It helps the understanding when you "Quote" whosoever.

Hi, I,C.,
Nice use of the rime-crusted branches and twigs to internally frame the creek and its stones. Makes me want to try to crop in an effort to make the flowing creek more the undisputed subject.
Either way, I'm a sucker for rime-covered trees!

Yes my friend I was aware all these were shot in colour but Denis's does resemble IR when seen through these blood shot drug and alcohol soaked eyeballs.
Your trestle is a pretty cool post as well fella.
Must go have some writing to do.
Humm, memories of growing up in Michigan left at 26 years of age... still can feel the chill looking at your images... thanks for sharing.

I like the image's cool colors. They look like something that might've been created in Silver Efex but instead they were created more beautifully by nature. I'm sure there is something you did in processing that enhanced the silvery look but it doesn't matter, it is quite a nice image. Makes me wish I had access to snow!
The images added later by others are also very nice, and have that "toned" look as well, though with different colors of nature's palette.
Thanks, IC, for an interesting thread. I will seldom have a chance to try this with snow, but I have had similar effects with very dull lighting in some situations.

I did a Levels adjustment in PS CC. Since there was very little color in the image, the levels adjustment could either take me to a brown/sepia look, or to a more toned, blue/black look. I opted for a more b/w look.

Glad you did as it works well for this shot IC. I'm leaning with Uuglyper about loosing some room from the top.

Good suggestion on the top crop. Maybe bring it down to the top of the lower tree in the center.

Love the natural framing!!! I wouldn't crop it from the top because then the image would be too bottom heavy, in my opinion. I like it as it.
