Seriously, if your bring your colt 45 unlicensed to New York you can end up doing serious jail time. A football player (can't remember his name) shot himself with his own unlicensed gun and ended in jail. Better bring a camera with a 17-50mm 2.8 lens. Have a great time. There is a book What to Photograph in New York City.
We have great museum the Met, Moma, Natural History etc. One site that I highly recommend going to is the 911 Memorial. I never would have gone there on my own but friends had tickets and wanted me to join them. If you don't want to buy tickets and go inside walking around outside is worth the trip.

18-35mm is what I carry for NY. Light weight and the Perfect range for cropping

would love to hear from those only that have been to nyc and what lens you used, or better yet, what one lens do you wish you would have taken. I am headed there for a wedding over Thanksgiving and will have about one full day to myself to walk the streets..... I wont have full kit with me, and will be taking a full frame Canon 5dm3.
Thanks in advance for any/all input.

I visit the "city" often, I use my 24-70 lens mostly. There's plenty to see and do. Enjoy!

Good point. I much prefer a fast 35mm lens, but I get much better images when I mount a compatible body to it. My favorite rig, however, would be a 9mm mounted on a mini-Glock body.

Depending on the length of your stay in NYC, you might bring more than one lens. Then go out with just one of them for the day or half the day. Then switch to another lens on your next outing.

In that case, it would be my "walk around" lens, the 70-200/2.8L II!

I did NY with my Canon 5d2 and a Carl zeiss 50mm. Light weight and great lens. Very happy with results.
