1St guess, camera artifact, hopefully as suggested a reboot will cure it.

2ND it looks like what mine will do on occasion if I don't debayer the fit file and simply go with the B&W.

Don't know, Matthew. Haven't fiddled with Debayering for a while now. Is Deinterlace kind of the same thing?
Camera artifact was one of my first thoughts way back before I discovered I could set it for RAW, YCbCr, or RGB.
I do much in RGB for the color of the Nebula's I like to chase around the sky.

Anyway, I discovered this digiCamControl is pretty far out. It even has an astro section, and can do time lapse exposures as well. I'm all set for tonight's playtime. I think....
I got tired of taking pictures and video's of a distant tree blowing in the wind from here inside the house.

Don't know yet. The G3 takes fit raw files. I will often export them as a jpg with minimal to no post processing, because when I try to post process, things get very ugly, very fast.
I did save a series of exposures up to 550s long. At 550s I finally had the presence of mind to record a raw fit, a YCbRa, and a RGB file.
The one posted is from a 450s raw fit file, exported as a jpg, no fiddling.
Anyway, I have a program called digiCamControl I am working with today to give me DSLR control just like I have with my other cameras, remotely.
Tonight is the New Moon!
And I'm trying a new direction. Ho, ho, ho....
Don't know yet. The G3 takes fit raw files. I will... (show quote)

I really like digiCamControl. It also does Canon, Panasonic, Nikon etc. So I only need one Camera Control program.
They just came out with an Update today I believe. Version 1.2.89 (BETA)

1.3.48.0 beta

The booger even has an Astronomy section.
And can do video without touching the camera.

Somebody really thought this program out. ;)

I was taking pictures of some distant trees, and video, and controlling it from inside this afternoon.
I left my DSLR on the telescope for tonight.

New Moon Tonight! Clear Skies!

These were designed not only for CCDs but also with DSLRs in mind, or so product salesman will state. The advantage being that a DSLR has an irregular body shape so odd reflections from light bounce off the body would be very limited. I would be more afraid of the square shined body of SBIGs cameras, yet there are astounding images on astrobin with those configurations. Only problem with Sony is their cooking of the raw files, to the point they make calibration of the images worthless or even worse than the started out. Supposedly Sony is working on a fix for this issue through firmware updates.

The new Sony RAW capability has indeed been released and the reviews are saying that there is absolutely no evidence of any type of artifacts in the image now. But the files are large.

So far, only the A7Rii and A7Sii have this ability, but the A7ii is supposed to be added on the 18th.

The Sony A7S. Tell me under what conditions would you actually use an ISO of "Expandable Sensitivity: ISO 50-409,600"???
And what would it look like???
Craig

There are a couple uses:

1) You can take amazing movies of the night sky. The high ISO really pulls in the night sky.

2) Since the Sony LCD is WYSWYG, cranking up the ISO fill the LCD with lots of stars and allows you to easily see and focus on what you are looking for and to then lower the ISO back down to something more reasonable for the actual imaging.

I don't know what the ISO is on the Nightscape, but I know I can not take a photo of a partial moon, its completely blown out.

Is your NightScape a color version or mono version? Which model is it?

It's the color 95555. I've only used it these few times over the last weekend, but seems to do a good job. (I don't have a point of reference to make a comparison).

I do not believe that Celestron makes a monochrome nightscape camera, and Europa's version utilizes the KAI-10100 sensor which only comes in a color version, from what I can tell. For reference you could search Astrobin I know SBIG's original STX model was available with this sensor also Orion made a Parsec camera with a version ustilizing this chip. One of the best benefits of this particular chip is that it can bin at 2x2 and still retain its color profile.

A great resource for researching various CCD detectors,
