It is a refurb from the apple site.

I've only ever used PC's, but I've heard so much about Apple being better for photography editing.

Thoughts?

I have the same laptop that I use for Lightroom and Final Cut Pro. It does a good job. However, 256GB of storage is not much and it cannot be upgraded. I have purchased several refurbished from Apple, you get same warranty as a new one.

depends on price/age. In general you'll find many fewer issues of stability, eliability, security with Mac OS than windows.

I am sure it is a good system. But Microsoft claims the new Surface book is much better and it uses windows 10 so unless it is a matter of money there is no need to switch system

I ordered a refurbed MacBook Pro with 16GB ram, 1TB HD, and a 512MB graphics card with 1GB GDDR5. I think this little system will do me fine :D

The first thing you do is get at least one external shirt pocket hard drive. Better to get two. Set one up for time machine back ups, & one for strictly photo back ups. The WD My Passport for Macs would be a good choice as the 1tb version is $69.99 at Best Buy.

My WD external drive crashed thankfully my computer didn't. I bought a G drive recommended by friends and B&H and so far so good.

I was same as you in only ever had pcs.,and then got a Mac Pro and love it. Much easier to use and it works. Any questions i go to the apple store and get help for free.

I don't know that Mac is better for photography, I used a PC for years and it was fine for photography. Having switched to a Mac I'd never go back-easier to use better customer support etc.

Funny, but as soon as I saw your title, my answer was Yes.

Looking at the specs, I have to agree with myself. I got a refurb MBP (mid 2011 model), and I love it. David Pogue has a good book about switching to the Mac, and lynda.com has good instruction, too.

However, I don't think you have to switch to Apple to do good photo editing.

The only problem with a G drive is the only ones I have seen won't fit in your shirt pocket.
