Wife and I are heading to San Diego for a week's vacation on Saturday. Other than the obvious stops of the zoo, wild animal park and Balboa Park; where are places I should look at as a photographer for good photo ops? Since wife is not a photographer I would really appreciate places where she won't get too bored as I shoot. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

Take the San Diego Scenic Drive. It's 59 miles, covers just about everything, and you'll have photo ops galore. Neither of you will be bored.

Not mentioned here, so far , is a San Diego harbor tour. Great views of the skyline and Coronado bridge. The boat pulls right up to the bridge. With a harbor tour you most likely can get the best perspective (photo ops) of the skyline including the high rise building with the emptying martini glass illusion. As you change location, the "glass" goes from full to empty or vice versa.

Enjoy your trip.

Do you have a photo of the building? I have never heard of it before, and would like to see what the building looks like.

This one is one I have done before and is on the list. I really enjoy this area and with luck I will get a good sunset.

Go to the Sunsets cliffs at Ocean Beach for the best sunsets.

The remarks of cheryl Z reminded me of some pictures my cousin took when she was out there 4 years ago. She went on a sightseeing flight in an old bi plane around San Diego. There are several tour groups. Most of them operate from Montgomery Field.

I did a search of my photos, but could not find a photo with the martini image on top. The image, I think, was/is a hologram. A Google search turned up nothing on the building I'm talking about. My info is dated (1999) and the image could have been changed. Perhaps someone on the forum who lives in San Diego or close by could chime in. My photos did not have building references and there are more than one hi-rise that could be the one having the martini image. Thinking back on my trip, I'm surprised I did not catch that image. It was clearly visible while on the harbor tour.

I have been in San Diego since April 1993 and take at least one air tour and one boat tour each year. I don't have a clue what you might be referring to.

I don't think anyone has mentioned it so far, so: cross the San Diego Bay bridge to Coronado. It has beautiful beaches, the Hotel Del Coronado (where old Hollywood used to come to play and the setting of "Some Like it Hot" ) . The bonus is that from that side of the bay you can shoot a panorama of the entire San Diego skyline, day or night.
