Because it is way more powerful than a tablet, by far. Don't
even know if a tablet can handle photo shop.

Think of it this way-----a laptop is not confined to one spot, your desk. A monitor and keyboard and tower are confined to a fixed location. Generally speaking though, the desk top is available with more ram, memory larger capacity hard drive.

I would go for a laptop , you will get higher spec , ram , processor , and hard drive .
Try to get a laptop with a SSD drive , min 16GB RAM .
The main reason I would get a laptop is more accuracy when using PP .
You have the use of the pointer , where with a tablet most things are done on screen with your finger .
I would think this would not be ideal on a tablet , but could be wrong .

I did some googling and found I may be wrong. I thought Photoshop needed keyboard controls for the vast array of controls. Apparently not.

I found a totitorial on Photoshop on you tube that person said a tablet is way better than a laptop or desktop. He seemed to be using a mouse in his demonstration.

I went from a 19" laptop, to a 23" "all-in-one" and could not be happier. It's all wireless and can be used as a touch screen. Some even have a built in battery so it can be used similar to a tablet. Generally more memory and speed than a tablet but, not quite as much as a desk top.

Whichever you decide on, I strongly recommend adding an external hard drive to keep your photos on.

How does one connect an external hard drive to a tablet? Our family has four tablets, none of which have a USB port.

look up what "all-in-one" is. It is not a tablet. Mine has two USB ports, and SD card slot, head phone jack, mic jack, CD drive, forward facing camera, hand gesture controls, touch screen (with keyboard), wireless keyboard and mouse. It ran great on Windows 8.1 and a lot better with Win10.

And it's on sale http://www.bestbuy.com/site/acer-aspire-23-touch-screen-all-in-one-computer-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive-black/5816145.p?id=1219159702482&skuId=5816145  :D Plus a newer 2TB version.

It does not matter. Only what you intend to use the device for. If you want portability, and pick a desktop, your going to need a BIGGER backpack. If you don't leave your cave and are shackled to your chair for life, the desktop will do. You can certainly find devices in either category that will push software. If you need a bigger monitor, they easily plug into both.

Tablets are for convenience. Computers are for computing.
