I spent a little time Saturday photographing some scenes around the farm.
First Gopher of Spring
Spring Time Montana Creek
Funny Rock
Saturday morning well spent Dave, nice shooting
Looks like some green grass coming up around the prairie dog!

I love the second one, it looks so peaceful.
Love the second picture...the blue water stands out nicely in the brown. Always love to see other parts of the country...
There's not a lot of green grass or buds on the trees yet, but give it time. It's still pretty chilly in the mornings. We had snow Friday night/Saturday morning, but as you can see, it was gone by Saturday afternoon.
I love the creek scene too. There's never a lot of water there, maybe a foot or two except right after a heavy rain or during spring run off. I drove my car through the crossing which is just off the left hand side of the picture. I drive a Chevy Impala and it was not in any danger of getting stuck or me getting wet. Other times I've gone through there when the water came up almost to the tank on my dirt bike. When it's that deep you learn not to hit the water at 35 or 40 mph LOL

I knew we were in Montana when I saw the beautiful picture of the stream winding through the brown prairie. That is so Montana. I am qualified to say that aas I lived there for 20 years. The rock formation is also interesting.

Where in Montana were you? We've got plenty of Norwegians and Danes here in NE Montana, but not as many Swedes.

I was born and raised in Roundup. I don't know that there were many swedes there. The main industry was coal mining and ranching (we had a small ranch). The miners were mostly eastern European and the ranchers were anything but. The two groups did not associate if at all possible. Later after I got to Seattle I learned about race prejudice and realized I had lived with it all through my childhood. I got the Swede moniker in College when I roomed with a bunch of Norwegians. I was the brunt of many jokes--most in good taste. Northeast and Southeast Montana are areas of the state that I have never seen. What traveling I did was in those days hwy 12 through to North Dakota.

Roundup is a great town. I've been to a few high school football games there and was always treated well. Some towns aren't so welcoming of out of town fans. I also enjoyed spending a few days there for the Big Drive of '89 party surrounding the Centennial Cattle Drive.
Next trip to Billings might have to include the scenic route through Roundup for some photos.

That is on the list. I was never impressed with the scenery through the badlands until I have now traveled a number including Death Valley. I now find them very interesting and now would like to go back and see the Montana/ND ones as well as the South Dakota ones. Southern Utah has fantastic photo ops as well as Las Vegas. I always thought it was a very unattractive place but now have sound numerous places that are very nice to photo. If you are interested I have a lot of travel photos on my website

Hey Big Dave,
I'm planning a trip to Montana in mid September. Do you know where I may be able to drive to some old abandoned homes or barns for some landscape photos?
Thanks,
Sam King
