Atheists you have that RIGHT in this COUNTRY to not believe in any GOD.

I have no idea. It started out about the school not allowing the word God in Lee Greenwoods "Proud to be an American". Fox as well as other networks reported on this. As always it was stated, Fox Was not telling the truth. So from there it had been turned everyway but loose.

Yeah and this forum is democratic. A special interest art forum that has a chit-chat thread that we can talk about anything. We can rant and some may disagree but they won't call you names or tell you to shut up. We need 535 members of congress to join a forum like this. Think of the possibilities- a web forum where Senators and Congressmen can air their differences, although the public could not join in, they could watch the entries in real time. At the end of the day, the site could solicit public comment, it could work!

This country was founded by a group of people of various religious backgrounds. They knew, to make this country strong, there had to be freedom OF religion by using the clause "separation of church and state." Now, we are letting our country get torn down to a freedom FROM religion by a misinterpretaion of that same clause. Let's keep God in this country, and I don't care if you go to a church, a synagogue or a mosque; I don't care if you believe you should "sit-stand-sit" or "sit-kneel-sit" or any other ritual of worship. Just worship.

Let God back into our schools and our courtrooms and watch this country restrengthen.

Could you direct me to the phrase "separation from church and state" please, just where exactly does that phrase come from?

Political correctness began as an attempt to do the right thing, regardless of what the mainstream though- the mainstream sometimes being neither informed or right. But as we all know, it became corrupt itself; being "correct", engendering its own kind of power.

But I don't worry much- most of the time, someone is willing to stand up and say "Look! The Emperor has no clothes!". And that did happen in this case- the school backed off.

There is an old aphorism (sorry, I can't remember the attribution) that states "that those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it". This country was founded by people fleeing the English mandate of one sect of the Christian faith only and no others. Quakers, Catholics and others fled here to practice their brand of Christianity in peace. Freedom of religion originally referred, originally to the Christian faith. It is good to extend it to other belief systems, but don't forget where it came from and who guaranteed it.

The first amendment prohibits the government from establishing a specific church or religion as the “established religion”. It does NOT imply a “separation” of church and state. It is there to protect our right to choose our religion not to kick religion out of the government or society. Read it.

George Santayana, philospher. Born Madrid, raised and lived in US, died Rome, Italy.

Re: First amendment, separation, etc etc etc.

"Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

What that means, simply, is that the Federal Government can NOT align itself with ANY religion, good, bad or indifferent. And, I hate to break it to you, but using the word GOD in official documents, signs, seals, coins, oaths, and so on RESPECTS the ESTABLISHMENT of a religion. We all know that when you say "GOD", you speak of a Christian deity.

How would you good Christians feel if we added "In Allah We Trust" to all our coins? Or sang, "Buddha bless the USA!", or "Shiva and Vishnu Bless America" ???

The inclusion of the word "GOD" in official government stuff implies support of the Christian religion, to the exclusion of all others. That's simply not right.

What a crock! The government is not establishing nor has not established any law that dictates anyone participate in the Christian faith and that’s what the first amendment is there to prohibit. For us to put “In God We Trust” on our coins is not binding anyone to any faith system.

It appears however that there is a theological faction of the right wing that wants to dictate our beliefs. I also think that these ideologies stem from wanting others to confirm your beliefs thinking like if everyone believes it then it must be true.
