Thanks for your info. I have been looking at B&H and Adorama since you mentioned them. Now I just have to make my decision.

Don't leave out Cameta Camera. As stated above, they extend the 90-day Nikon warranty to one year. That looks like it's going to save me a whole lot of dollars since I won't have to pay for the repair of my son's D5300 that failed 3 weeks after the Nikon warranty expired. Good fortune to happenstance on my part. Perhaps, good fortune by good planning on your part.

Thank you for that information. I still think 10,000 is too high but I am definitely leaning toward a refurb to save a little money since I will have to buy a CF card, SD card and a reader for the CF.

If I thought that 10,000 is to high a shutter count then I would advise you to buy new . Because 10,000 is very low , it would be hard to find lower . It can be done but it would be hard . Some pro's put that on in a month , that's only
28 clicks a day to do that in a year . Or 333 a day to do it in a month . How many will you be taking . Ten a day is only 3560 pic a year . I would not be
Put off by a camera that had 60000 actueations on it if the price was right .it still has 20,000 pictures a year left for five more years. Before it gets any where near to what it has been tested for .

I agree 10,000 activations is low with modern DSLR's. But why are we even talking about this in this thread unless we are talking about used camera's. This thread is about refurbs. No manufacturer is going to sell a factory refurb with 10,000 activations period. This is very useful information if you intend to buy used but it will never come up in the purchase of a Factory Refurb. Unless it is a refurb done by someone other than a factory employee and not guaranteed by the manufacturer. 2nd and 3rd Party refurbs usually sold by shady bait and switch dealers.

I bought all of my current DSLR gear refurbished from Nikon, and it all works great, with no problems. Nikon's refurbs are refurbished...repaired, cleaned, etc, and made "almost as good as new"; within limits. If you are a working pro who is busy, and will shoot 30,000 images a month, you may be better off buying new gear. If you are a typical amateur, you can trust a Nikon refurb. Of course, it depends upon how you use the gear, and how lucky you are, but you will get your money's worth of use out of it, I am sure.

I purchased a factory refurbished Nikon Coolpix from Adorama and it turned out to be a brand new camera. maybe it was a return but it came in a box that said factory refurbished by Nikon. The actual camera was brand new with all of the manuals and accessories. I might sell my D7000 and purchase a refurbished D7200 if the price is right.

Has anyone one bought a refurbished camera from Nikon? Were there any problems with the camera? Did you have to send it back? Do they have high shutter counts?

I see that Nikon is offering 10% off their refurbished cameras and this may be a great deal if I know that I'm not getting a camera that has 10,000 shots on it already. I know they are gone over by the Nikon techs but a very used camera won't be worth the money. Is there any type of set standards that keep it from being a very used camera?

Thanks for all your info!!!

This is the general experience we have all had buying Nikon Refurbished Cameras. It is the rule. Not the exception.

I recently bought a refurb Nikon P7800 from Adorama. Looks great, performs well. Only surprise is that is was missing an instruction book. Everything else was there. I bought a "Compact Field Guide" from Amazon. It was more than 10% off Nikon's price for a refurb
