keep it simple, raw has more info.when you set your camera to raw, the camera converts it to a useable format such as neff, awr, or dng.then you find an editor that will prosess it.if you really want to go an extra mile, you can convert your raw files to tiff or jpg,and still have bigger files and more editors to work with.we just don't take the time to clarify it to newbes.

Yes, I had the same ''issues'' 6 months ago when I got my first DSLR. To me, I could spend all of that time in the RAW processing program for my Nikon, or spend 2 minutes in PS and seemingly get the same results. So what convinced me was that it was Christmas time and I wanted to take photos of the lights and went out front for practice and started just taking photos of everything in both RAW and Jpeg. Then I came back it and downloaded them and did my best in both programs on both formats and discovered the real superiority of RAW over JPEG. That's why I keep trying to drum into peoples heads that don't think there's really much difference between the two to---go outside tonight about 20 minutes after sunset when the sky is truly getting dark and take pictures in low light situations, and also in bright exposure situations and then come back in and download them and work them to the best you can you they will see the tremendous advantage of RAW over Jpeg! Sure, not every photo I take needs to be RAW but it is far superior. Thats why I post the 3 shots of my cat. The exposure was extremely underexposed, it was trash but had that been an important one on vacation or something like that it would have been lost. So I worked the jpeg copy in PS and it helped but it was still basically garbage. Then I worked the RAW file and made it a good photo again. So.... if anyone is still on the fence about RAW or Jpeg do yourself a favor. Tonight when the sky is just going from deep purple to black, turn on your lights in your house and go outside and take photos of your house, up and down the street and that kind of thing and shoot in both modes and then try to process them and you'll see the advantages of RAW.
