Roy, if that doesn't work out, I have a HR-2 that will work on your 50mm.
It's the solid type all metal, not the plastic petal type. It's yours if you want it, just send me your address by e mail.

The Nikon Part# for that hood is the HS-9. Its still readily available.

The HS-9 is not technically "correct" for the pre AI versions I believe .........

The HS-9 is the correct hood profile for all 50mm F1.4 lenses from the Pre-AI through the AF-D model. There are others that work as well but they are all screw-on, the HS-9 is the quick clamp model.

Let's put it this way then, the HS-9 did not come as original equipment on the original pre-AI 50 1.4's ....I believe.

The HS-9 hood was the Premium selection from Nikons catalog for all those lenses, it was never "standard" equipment for any boxed lens, but originally was Nikons upgrade offering on all those lenses starting in 1964, clearly Pre-AI timeframe.

Actually he only asks about a "lens hood" to fit it, no specific hood, a recommendation for a collapsible rubber hood would fit his needs just as well.

Nikon HR hoods are rubber screw-in. The HR-1 will fit that lens.
Edit: The HN-5 metal screw-in hood is also specified for the 50 f/1.4 AI & AIS.

I have two versions of the 50/1.4 lens hood, both clip on style.
One says "f=50mm f=58mm 1:1.4 Nikon F JAPAN"
The other says "50/1.4 F NIKKOR JAPAN" with the F as a larger outline letter. This one is a bit deeper than the other.
Neither has any other marking (e.g. HNx, HSx)
