Beautiful!
But Mount Rainyer always gives me pause when we visit the kids up there.
I always remember Mount Saint Helen's.
Kinda a firecracker compared to what Mount Rainyer could do...

That's why they have Volcano Evacuation Route signs all over to get to high ground and Lahar sirens to tell you that cubic miles of mud and melted glacier are coming your way!

The Milky Way rising above Mt Rainier. I took this shot near a place called Sunrise at about 6,300 ft elevation. Not the best of nights for imaging as there was a light haze in the air from the numerous wildfires burning in central Washington. Even at that elevation, I could smell the smoke. I also posted this in the main forum.

That is beautiful! How far from the visitor's center were you? I haven't been up there in decades and never at night. I want to get up there this summer. With my luck, after this current moon, it will be crappy until next year.

Thanks Sonny. One of these days I'd like to get down to Mt. St Helens. I've been living up here for the last 20 years and haven't made it down there yet. I think a good image of the Milky Way over the shattered crater of St. Helens would be pretty dramatic.

Thanks skylane. I think I was about a quarter mile from the lodge. I went up there but it was pretty windy so I retreated a bit to a calmer area for the pictures. If you go at night, drive slow. I came within a whisker of hitting a deer while driving back. Had to swerve into the opposite lane. Fortunately, at 1:30am no one else was on the road.

Yeah, and of course nobody is going to abandon their car and run....

When Mount Saint Helen's popped, we lived in Wyoming. We got ~ 1/2" of Orygone real estate at our house.

The kids took us to see it one time while up there.
Volcanoes are nothing to mess with.
We had ash up to our ashes.
