A lot of people haven't been shooting for 40+ years and are still learning. Others shoot what they like. Not everyone here, including me, is an artist.

Some people, including me, want to see photographs as they were taken. Not to include non-existing lake with non-existing boat and non-existing gees flying over. We have seen that here. Awful.

If you're asking why you don't see anything but basic photos on "Main Photography Discussion", it's because the photographers who know how to do it the right way also have bothered to learn that there are other sections of this forum where the photographs should be posted. I don't care how well they're done, I don't want to see the photographs of your family vacation to down town Gotham City or your collection of pictures of your weeds in this section.

Actually, I spend all my time wondering why all you post are basic pics as well, when there is so much that can be done with PP??!!
I say, lead by example, and others will follow!!
Gig, welcome to the Hog!! ;-)

What a stupid comment that can only come from someone who really does not understand photography....Please post your compelling, software rendered images.

It all depends on one's taste. I know of photographers that prefer the natural rendition off the sensor.
I am quite conservative when it comes to editing my files. Many times I prefer the natural look but with many of my files I use software for enhancement but never departing from reality.

Well Gig, there are probably several reasons and all are justifiable.
1. Many are here to lean
2. Many are here as a social group and wish to share there adventurers and it is a great way to keep active. Even if it's just the bugs in there back yard.
3. Some are here because they are supper good at it and trying so others what they should strive for with practice and patience.
4. Many don't know what a photo can be with PP. and to be honest it's not as easy to do as some think. That is beyond cropping and adjusting.
5. Some are here to see what's happening. I.E. gadgets and the Technical side of Photography. In other words what's new.
We are all thank-full for those that share knowledge with use and look for nothing in return.
Welcome to the UHH and hope you can enjoy your stay here.

YES!!
I do a lot of posting on other sites, i.e. = Facebook, my official site, and a few others.
In the mornings - sometimes in the evening, I come here to help - give advice - get help for me - and sometimes for my own private amusement.
There are plenty of sites to post photographic "goodies" and other photographs. I like this site as it is - and I, for one, really do not wish that to change.
:-)
Gig: if you enjoy viewing photos - basic or other, consider joining Flickr and follow photographers you like, check out Tumbler, and others. I scan these for ideas and more.

BTW
Before you pass judgement on what others post, why don't you post some of your own work first?

If you looking for a steady diet of "pro" stuff there are dozens of places. 500px and some in flickr others shutterbug and the band plays on. This site has a delightful mixture of the entire spectrum.
