Beyond Basic Photos

I have to wonder why I do not see anything but basic photos on this site, when so much can be accomplished using photo editing software.

I guess it's all what you're into. There're photo purists and computer artists at the extremes of the spectrum. Most people on this site probably range towards pure photography with only slight editor adjustments to reframe or perhaps correct for exposure, etc.

Different strokes for different folks.
If you'd rather sit in front of a computer than be out photographing, knock yourself out. Nobody's going to stop you.

If you're unable to spend 4 hours a day on the site just browsing and having fun, use the "buddy list" feature to refine your daily search through Photo Gallery.
Also, there is a post-processing forum that you should follow if you are willing to assist others in learning.

Say what? You aren't looking at the right sub forums.
Even a lot of the apparently basic shots have been PP'd a fair amount.
If you mean the "art" stuff that no longer even looks like a photograph, then yeah, it is out numbered by photographs that look like photographs instead of a graphic artist's daydream.
Look at Bob Yankle's stuff.

Well Gig, there are probably several reasons and all are justifiable.
1. Many are here to lean
2. Many are here as a social group and wish to share there adventurers and it is a great way to keep active. Even if it's just the bugs in there back yard.
3. Some are here because they are supper good at it and trying so others what they should strive for with practice and patience.
4. Many don't know what a photo can be with PP. and to be honest it's not as easy to do as some think. That is beyond cropping and adjusting.
5. Some are here to see what's happening. I.E. gadgets and the Technical side of Photography. In other words what's new.
We are all thank-full for those that share knowledge with use and look for nothing in return.
Welcome to the UHH and hope you can enjoy your stay here.

This site is a community of photographers of all levels. Most of us are here for the discussions and examples of what to do to improve our skills. I am very grateful to those how are here that know more than I do about this art and are sharing their insights.
If you are just interested in looking at lots of well processed photos, I would suggest you check out 500px.com and maybe pixoto.com. They have a lot of higher end photographers displaying photos, but not a lot of discussion.
Both this site and those have their places and the combination is a good way to learn.

I have posted pictures today, I'm not sure how before they appear. I intend to post pictures for the next few days. Some are multiple layers and some are just a few.
