To all the Veterans who are actually hogs. I recognize some of the Hogs are Vets by their byline or avatar. Rather than saying thanks to the few I can recognize I thought I would thank all the vets who are Hogs. If not for you none of us would be here talking about photos, etc. I chase you down in parking lots, restaurants, etc. when you may where a hat identifying yourself or still in uniform.

Thank You All for your service.

As an ex-RAF 'vet', thank you for your best wishes.

I understand Israel has a mandatory enlistment for 2 years prior to collage. Makes sense to me to always have a ready population to protect the country. Japan realized trying to take the USA during WWII was not even a slim possibility because of the general population being armed and also trained in using firearms. Now they (extreme Liberals) want to disarm us so we can be controlled like pre war Germany, Russia, etc. etc. Thanks to Vets like you all are that may never happen here. 20 years ago I would have said "never" happen here.

Sorry, my political feelings are starting to show, Greg

I agree!!! There was no goal to get it done. The folks running it were very stupid!!!!

You are talking about the membership of the United States Congress! The U.S. participation in the conflict in Viet Nam was run by committees of very stupid people who were also known as members of congress. Our national election has become more of a thank-an-idiot-day. Maybe we citizens should demand they wear a uniform while serving, the Bozo-the-Clown outfit would be a perfect fit.

I was going to start listing all the Vets from other countries like England (UK) and realized that there would be a possibility of missing a country that fought for our freedoms and at the same time I did not want to even mention the bear in that regard. Patton was right 100% in that regard. So thank you for keeping the world free of oppression. Greg

youse guys make me feel guilty fer never having gotten shot at, but I can live with that.... GBG dislike for the military is similar to fear of guns.... ignorant.. Having all the guys put in a pot and having it sturred, as the draft did was a good idea... Also a lotta guys got "trained" by the military (instead of going to jail), was a winner also..

Why thank you Greg!!!! We don't hear that to much any more! Did Nam for 7 years. Not a fun time for sure! But coming home was very bad. We were the baby killers????

I was young then but I was always amazed at the protestors singling our the returning soldiers for harassment. Like you had a choice??? I was in boy scouts at the time and we wore green uniforms and in NYC I was accused of being a baby killer in training. I did join the USAF and stayed for 8 years.

Sad.

I was a tin can sailor from 1957 to 1961 out of Newport, RI. We did go to battle stations and armed in 1960 when two MIGS overflew us twice off the coast of Cuba. Nothing ever came of it, but it was my sole experience of that kind. Nam vets have a very different story to tell, sadly.

First off, I love the responses one and all, Thank You.

I tried enlisting in the Navy and Air Force. Neither would take me in 66 because of the steel in my back (curvature, fusion and instrumentation). I worked for the Air Force at Elmendorf in Anchorage from the winter of 66 till fall winter of 67. I saw all my new made friends (some of them) leaving to go west. Saw the huge at the time C141. I had the run of the base both Elmendorf and Fort Richardson. I was the base currier for the exchange and carried money, etc. from the different exchanges back to the bank and payroll on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays. 18 years old with a cool anywhere from $80K to $360K. I actually had a higher clearance than my AP escorts. When I went to remote exchanges (Radar installations) they got stopped at the gate and I was welcomed in. Went in one time after duty hours.

Was a great experience for myself and wish I had stayed in but the beaches and girls with a tan were calling me back to Florida. Almost became a sourdough. It takes three items to get there, fight a grizz, pee in the Yukon and sleep with an Eskimo (Inuit). I did all but one and that I will let you guess at. It is this experience in my young life that got me through but I feel I missed the real maturity builder, the armed forces.

So again, I thank all you Vets for allowing me to live in this country with you all.

I was stationed and flew out of Adak in the aleutions and Elmendorf was our alternate if the frequent horrible weather at Adak prevented us from landing, even though it was over a thousand miles away! We loves Elemdorf because as an Air Force base it was much newer and better quarters than the old Navy barracks on Adak.
