Let’s just put all this ‘over******’ talk to bed. It’s the same kind of carping that occurred when ‘black&white’ photographers first met Kodachrome…

Good point natron. I do remember those earlier days. Thanks for looking and your point of view.

Thank you Donald for looking. I've heard the water color description a few times before. This is one I will work on some more.

Today's photographers often ask for critique - as did the poster. His picture is his creation. It has been likened to a water colour. He is an artist
. Artists who create using paints and canvas or paper etc do not generally go round asking for critique - but are happy to accept compliments, or will listen to the "don't likes". What artists are looking for is not critique but reaction. Plus reason for the reaction. This is what the poster has received.
I'm not sure what your "over******" talk means, but I have a feeling that I don't want to.

For your edification, my comment was not directed to the photographer, but rather to the plethora of constant critics of HDR in almost any technical derivation, especially when their tediously repetitive critique seems to always boil down to…”overcooked”!

Yes - I understood the direction in which your comments were aimed. However, there are only so many comments to make about any facet of photography, but the requests for "critique" keep on coming, which means that those comments are bound to get, as you say, "tediously repetitive".
So - in your esteemed opinion - do we carry on answering such requests - or should we not bother? Perhaps we should all pack up and go home?
If we don't use "overcooked" (when the pic deserves it) would you rather read "bloody awful" - and if so, how long will it be before that turn of phrase becomes, as you say, "tediously repetitive"? :-)

I really would like to thank everyone who looked and commented on my photograph of Portland Head Light. I will use all the comments as I go forward. I hope to, possibly, visit the site again this year. I will look for a different tide and sky and a new way to render the out come.
Thanks again to everyone.
Mike

In these late days I probably wouldn’t be a champion of anything whose major pejorative is described as ‘bloody’, but a useful critique, if criticism is truly your calling, would be to restrict your observations to the relative excellence of exposure, composition, and emotional impact, if there is any.

everybody likes something different, I would have liked to see the uncropped finished pic. I kind of like the rocks in the foreground

Then are you saying that your quote "******" in your earlier reply, did not suggest an expletive? You have yet to explain it!
Criticism is NOT my calling - I can only provide my thoughts. But someone asking for critique needs to know what is wrong - not just what is right! With, hopefully, positive suggestions. So, sorry, but your comment on criticism (IMHO) seems to be totally ridiculous. :-D

This LH is featured in The HDR Book, by Rafael Concepcion. His book is one you should buy. I'd like to offer some CC, so I'll keep it civil: send to the recycle bin and start over.

But, what does reality have to do with it... Amatooch has told a story... his impression, his water color, the world "raw" is often dull, "overcooking" adds flavor and zest to both food and fotos...

This is one of my attempts at HDR. I'm ready, critique away. I will enjoy hearing where you think it can be improved.
It was done with Photomatix Pro.

What an impressive difference 🏆🏆🏆
