I think you just hit the nail on the head. Horseart is right, the op can do his/hers own policeing.

Of course, and it makes sense, because when someone other than the OP jumps in trying to enforce the rules all sorts of posts appear unrelated to the original topic and all hell breaks loose. Of course, it's possible that the enforcers want this to occur, increasing their notoriety and basically hijacking the thread themselves. 8-)

That's bad. If I want to disagree with you -- and as we both know, we have disagreed -- I'll do it in public, just as I will when I agree with you. And you have paid me the same compliment.

Very occasionally, I'll send a PM of agreement to someone, when they are being heavily attacked by complete idiots and I don't want to attract the same opprobrium from said idiots.

After all, it's a PUBLIC forum.

Then again, there are some people who are so shallow, trivial and stupid that there's no point in disagreeing with them, ever, because they won't understand that they are anything other than God's gift when it comes to to wit, charm and intelligence. What good would it do to try to change what they fondly regard as their minds?

Cheers,

R.

What if the op dose not know the rules? Then you have two problems, now they both think they can hijack. JMHO.

Totally agree....Noone should play Barney Fife on this issue..if the OP wants to remind someone of the rules then thats what should happen..otherwise go have a cold one..

I agree the OP should monitor their own thread. But I've seen offenders notified of the rules (tactfully, rudely, politely, directly, meekly) only to have them blow up and leave the forum. No real loss, obviously, but it makes everyone else feel bad.
No easy answers, but I feel certain we can all get through this and enjoy life in the future!

If i could also make a suggestion, that being the widespread use of abbreviations eg OP. I would respectfully suggest that the majority of newcomers (and that definately includes me)have no idea what they mean,I realise that as you become more at ease in uhh the majority become obviouse but at the moment i have enough trouble learning from you people without needing a notebook to write down all the short cuts.

I agree. Eventuall you learn a lot of them but then someone comes up with a new one you never heard before. It sure leaves you feeling like an outsider. Just my opinion. (JMO)☺☺☺

His giant, screen-wasting cartoons do get a bit wearing, don't they. I wonder if he draws them all himself? Or, if not, whether he pays royalties for using them? I'm sure he must do one or the other, because otherwise he'd be stealing them, and I can't imagine him doing that.

Cheers,

R.

Eh Doc ..... I don't have to spell it out because everyone that reads your posts know exactly what you are.

You still haven't learned when to leave well enough alone .... what a pity .... for you that is
