Thanks for all the suggestions and the humor  I think the Domke F2 bag may be the one for me. The tough canvas is what I need for the way I use my bag. And I'm tired of looking at bags!!!

I have tried several brands over the years, and I always return to Tamrac. Sturdy bags, excellent zippers (never broke one), good belts and solid comfortable straps, and lots of pocket options. Like LowePro, they have an interactive website.

Using a Ruggard for two years now, and it works great for me.
D7100, 70-200 and three other lenses, one SB-800, sync cord, macro viewfinder, filters, straps on bottom for tripod, and a waterproof overbag if you get stuck in foul weather. I did, and it is indeed waterproof. Prices are very reasonable and quality is high.

You can't go wrong with a LowePro bag. Check out the Magnum 200 All Weather bag. Looks classic and has room for three or four lenses, Speedlight, plus the D610 with a medium lens.

I also have a LowePro Magnum 200. It's a very sturdy shoulder bag. The molded bottom is very strong and can take a lot of weight. It's already a fairly large shoulder bag but there are two in the series that are even larger - the Magnum 400 and 650.

I have a LowePro Nova 200AW as well. It has a reinforcing panel under the foam cushion in the bottom that keeps the bottom from sagging too much and rubber feet underneath. Unfortunately, it was discontinued but it can still be purchased from sources in China as another member has mentioned.

Man-up. Go with a Lowe Pro Trekker back pack. I have the 600 model. Can handle everything, a hugh backpack, but if you want smaller the 350 is great also.

Awe Shucks ! You mean I can't suggest that to him! LOL.
I have many camera bags and I have to say one of my favorite bags that I use regularly is a Vera Bradley diaper /messenger (yes I said diaper) bag.
I bought a camera insert from Amazon that has many dividers and honestly the bottle pockets are perfect for flashes and other items.
While I do understand men may not want to carry one I think it's a perfect alternative for a woman. That way nobody really has a clue what's in my bag.
It's black and white and I carry my D610 , 85, 24-70, 50 and flashes and other odd and ends. Does it carry all of my stuff? No, but it carries enough of what I need to go out for the day. So for anyone who doesn't wanna appear they're carrying a camera bag. Buy a messenger bag and an insert on Amazon or Ebay for protection.
PS- I have that exact camera bag (came with my D610) if you'd like it I can send to you. The bag that carries most of my items is an Ape case bag.
It holds 2 bodies and numerous lenses. Then again, I have trouble carrying it! Haha. I guess we have to give and take 😊

I actually have a couple of diaper bags from the grand kids that aren't being used. But the girlfriend is expecting HER first grand child (a girl) in November, so maybe I better get a camera case so I don't end up on a camera outing with baby power and bottles.

Adorama had a Pepper Red Low Pro for $16.95 because of the color and discontinued item. Really Nice Bag. It's $29 now but still a great deal. Well made and room for 4 lens + camera and lens. http://www.adorama.com/LPNS7LRD.html

I have a Tamrac explorer 5 and have found it to be an excellent bag. You can strap it on your back or take it on a plane and it holds everything I have which is considerable. I am not sure if they still make this model but highly recommend it.

You will have a much bigger selection of camera bags available to you if you are willing to do without the Nikon logo. Besides, the Nikon logo only attracts thieves all the more.

I wonder if he got a Canon logo'd bag if it wouldn't repel thieves?

My SIL pitched a very nice Swissgear backpack. I always admired it and I grabbed on like a dog on meat to use it for my gear bag.
But it has too many compartments. It's hard to find stuff in it at times.
Such a dilemma....
