Stopped over 2 years ago. Lungs affected a bit. But I didn't become a nut over it. Wife still smokes and invite her to smoke outside the house regardless of weather.

Life is a choice. You make it, you live it. You want to wear oxygen whereever you go, keep abusing your lungs. I don't care and I don't judge.

If fact, I love the smell of 2nd hand smoke out in public.

I quit 11 years ago - one of the best things I did. I can't stand being near smoke, but I don't preach.

After 62 plus years of smoking gave it up last August. I,m so damned old I can not tell If I feel better from not smoking since I feel like hell from everything else. I'm sure my lungs are shot anyway but it cost to much to drive or smoke.

I love stastics and governmental accounting.
Of the 430,000 that die from smoking, if they had never smoked, 429,500 would surely have died from something else.

I've always believed that smoking kills, and I'm glad that it's been banned in most public places. But I still have a hard time believing that second hand smoke is as deadly as it's been portrayed. My parents were each 3-pack a day smokers, and five of us kids grew up in a 1300 sq foot house, so we were exposed to it constantly. None of us has ever had cancer. I realize that this is only anecdotal evidence, but I find it hard to believe that sitting on a beach or in a park near a smoker is a danger to my health. Granted I hate the smell of it, but how do you prove someone died from second-hand smoke? Seems pretty far fetched to me. Just sayin'.

I quit in 1981 after smoking 3 packs a day. It took me ten years for the craving to go away. Instead of all the "quit smoking" ads, why don't they just outlaw tobaco?

OMG!! Wouldn't that just be another case of the big bad socialist government taking away our liberty? Shouldn't I be able to kill myself any way I choose?

I used to smoke three pack a day. When they went from twenty five cents to thirty cents a pack, I said that's a dollar a day, too much and quit. But like Fla Walt said it took a long time for the craving to completely go.
By the way Fla Walt welcome to the forum. Lots of great photographers willing to share their knowledge and photos

Right and when they couldn't prove those numbers they decided to blame second hand smoke. Now those numbers are not adding up. Wonder what the next blame will be?

I quit a 35 year habit back in 1997. Alas, it was too late and was diagnosed with esophageal cancer 3 years later. The oncologist told me that, from the size of the tumor, it had been growing for 6-8 years. And he also told me that if I was still smoking, he would only have treated the disease palliatively rather than going for a cure.

Things worked out well and I'm still here 11.5 years after the diagnosis. As Fla Walt said, it took 10 years before the urge to smoke finally went away. Giving 'em up was one of the toughest things I've ever done.

After 30+ yrs of smoking I went and got a prescription for Chantix. It works as advertised. Somewhere around the 10th day I realized that I was out of smokes and had forgot to even smoke any for a couple of days. Been meaning to get to the store to get some but keep forgetting to and when I have been to the store I always forget to pick any up. This has been going on since last July.

Thanks to Chantix, quitting smoking was so easy that I wonder why I never thought of that before.

Wish Chantix had been around when I was quitting. I used the gum for a year and a half before I was able to give that up as well.

Congrats to all those who have managed to kick the habit.
