Most of the time the bird flies before you are ready for the shot, or is hidden by foliage, etc. One thing that helps is that the Barred owls seem to prefer living around the swamps and even feeding on small fish, along with their more normal diet of small birds, animals, frogs lizards, snakes and probably even large insets.
