People seem too scared to have an opinion, when an opinion is what you want and are asking for.
I don't mind having an opinion Dave.
Dave, the longer I looked at them the more I thought they should get the same or similar treatment.(no extra crop)

BUT, my first initial reaction and thoughts when seeing them there together was ..... leave the colour crop as it is .... but trim the uppermost black sky from the mono.

I might guess that someone might suggest cropping 25% from the left, and 10% from the right of one of them.

The thing with good images is, there are often quite a few good crops in the one image.
It does not degrade the main big picture at all and should not be seen as such.

After looking at these two shots, I am not sure why anyone would suggest you crop either one. I personally find the B/W more powerful ( my opinion), so maybe they want more sky and less road. Could be I am dense and i don't see the need for a crop. What suggestions were given as a need for a crop?

Rongo, boberic,Debbie,Dr.db, Mike, Frank2013, rook,Bob,Lighthouse, and NJFrank,
The absence of any substantive reason to crop these differently is reassuring as that was my feeling as well. The suggestion from the several others - camera club, art fairs -who had a strangely (to me) strong opinion ) was that the color version should be locally darkened at the bottom or cropped a bit from the bottom to reduce distraction by the prominent road.
Thank you all for thoughtfully looking and commenting; I appreciate it.

Its good that we are all different, but seriously, don't they realise how integral the road is to the image?

This pano was built out toward the ends from the first frame made when the road and the cloud gap were in conjunction...the feature that, by my intent, anchored the composition.

Dave, in this particular case, I don't think the cropping makes a difference. The composition and interesting balance is presented in either equally.

The road entering the image from the border about 1/3 of the way from the right. It also enters the frame from the bottom.

The highest part of the cloud bank is about 1/3 of the way from the right. It extends to almost the top at that 1/3 line.

Another interesting compositional point is that the smaller portion of the cloud, just to the right of the farthest extent of the road, seems to use the road as a fulcrum to balance the larger cloud mentioned earlier, visually not physically.

These elements present themselves very well in both the colour and black and white versions.

i missed this comment of yours. You did pick up on the road-cloud relationship!

When all the "votes" are in we sometimes have to go with our original intentions and feel comfortable with that decision. After all, nothing is changed in the composition, and in this case nothing (much) in the choice except possibility one's more general choice of preferring B&W to color. I think there is more life to the color version. All the lines in the landscape lead to the horizon just as well with spaces forming sharp triangles, and there seems no reason whatever to crop even one row of pixels.
