Compact Camera Advice

I had a Canon S120 and gave it to my daughter. It fit in a jacket pocket and I took it with me when I didn't want to carry my Nikons (now I've lightened up with the Olympus 5 Mark II). I would like to replace it with a camera that has at least as good image quality if not better and I'm looking for suggestions. I would like to be able to make enlargements of 12 x 18 and still put the camera in my jacket pocket. A viewfinder is not necessary (but RAW is). I'm willing to spend up to $1000 but obviously if I don't have to I can always use the extra money on the 75 mm Olympus lens I "need". Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

You might want to read the thread I posted earlier this year:

And by the way, I am VERY happy with the Fuji, though its costs a bit more than the $1K you mentioned

You'll get lots of useful input on this question. I like the Sony RX100 II, It shoots RAW, has no viewfinder and fits in your pocket.

Rx100iv or use your lenses with a gm5. The 12-32, 20mm, 17mm, or 45mm are all nice and compact and will work with your em5ii

With compact cameras you get your choice of a larger sensor and a shorter zoom or a smaller sensor and a longer zoom. The Sony RX100 III or IV have a 1 inch sensor and a lens that goes to only around 70mm. The Nikon P7800 has a 1/1.7 inch sensor and a lens that goes to 200mm. I suggest picking between the two.

The long zoom is not necessary. Wider on the short end is better for my street work then longer. Thanks for your suggestions.

Then consider one of the RX100 series or the Panasonic LX100. If they are too expensive (I think they are overpriced) consider the Panasonic LX7.

I second the recommendation of Panasonic Lumix LX7with the leica lens. Quality image at a reasonable price.

The III has a pop-up viewfinder.

I love my RX100iii. It fits in my pocket, but has all of the controls you find on larger cameras. The image quality is fantastic at ISO 800 and below. The RX100iv has enhanced video capability, but the image quality is not improved over the RX100iii.

Look into the reviews of the Ricoh GR. You won't be sorry.

I have no intention of getting the IV - not enough improvement, and the price is too high. I don't see the justification for the substantial increase. Canon and Nikon seem to maintain the same prices as models evolve.
