A saga of the first day of the new system introduction.

Some of the gloom and doom people were correct.
This morning - 1st day of Win 10 rollout - Windows installed crucial updates and restarted broken!

There were several messages that it could not find certain system files - 'may be on a drive that is inaccessible' - well the locations were decided by MS programmers so what have you done with them you stupid **!!!### !!!!!!

The desktop was bare of icons and wallpaper except for an empty trash bin that should have shown full.
The task bar was empty as was most of the the program list.

Found Google Chrome icon and clicked it - 'you expect me to open up, you have got to be kidding me'!!!

Clicked on Windows help - got message that it was having problems (having a melt down like a few million users no doubt) and couldn't find the help files.

So I did what Windows users are familiar with - went back to an earlier restore point where Windows did work (as well as it ever does) and once everything was as it had been before these defective updates - I turned Automatic Updates OFF.

I have too many programs to go over to a Mac and they are not perfect and trouble free.

I knew there was a reason to stick with Win 7 pro.

Are you saying that Bill Gates is so distraught over the sheer growth of Apple that he has created a doomsday WMD to take as many of us out as he can while he hunkers down in his bunker with a bottle of booze a gun and his family?

I have both Macs and PCs....And - no, Macs are not perfect - but their operating system is FAR more stable than Windows. That is a fact.
And - because both systems are now Intel processor based, it is easy to simply partition the hard drive on a Mac, and install a program called Parallels - which allows you to run Windows and ALL Windows programs, without exception - because you ARE using Windows....not an "emulator".

I just downloaded it on my desk top. Loaded without a problem, now to see if I like how it works.

In reality, I would bet that you can easily pare down that list. I only have found 1 program that I always used that cannot be had in a Mac version - Visio, and I have managed to live without it for years now... BTW - if I do need Visio, I can always fire up my Virtual machine for XP, Windows 7 or Windows 10.

Yes, not trouble free, but far less trouble for sure ;)

I'm still waiting to see any difference. I guess the last build I got as an insider is the final version.

I am still unable to install the last security patch released on the 27th. Research and help form the Insider Forum reveals that there is some sort of corruption in my windows update files.

I run the fix that Microsoft suggested and all is well. But once I reboot, the corruption is back and needs to be fixed again.

I'm going to live with it for a couple of weeks to see what happens. Then I'm probably going to do a clean install of 7 and opt out of the insider program. I'll upgrade to W10 later.

I just saw that Bestbuy is selling Windows 10 home for $99. I'm going to go down there with my Windows 7 install disk and ask for my free copy of windows 10.

Better off with a clean OS install, more work but more stable than an upgrade, it's been that way since Windows first appeared on the market. Every time I've tried upgrading there was always issues. So I stopped upgrading and just bought the new OS. Formatted the drive (which can't hurt from time to time) reinstall my software and 99% of the time with no problems. Good having multiple computers to work on while reinstalling and re-configuring. Pain in the butt, but in the end, well worth not getting pissed off and throwing something at a blameless monitor.

No, but throwing the monitor at Bill Gates MIGHT make me feel better....Same for Tim Cook at Apple  ( I am an equal opportunity "screen-slinger"....)

Just kidding.

If it makes everyone feel a bit better, I have 2 Macbook Pros, and 1 of them has a clean install of Yosemite on a new hard drive, and the other is the download/upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite.
The clean install one is absolutely thinking and understanding my requests more clearly.
They are not all that different than us as humans I suppose...
The more baggage we have to drag around, the more confused we are , and our judgement is not as clear. :D .

Wonder where I can go to get a "clean re-install" of my operating system? :-D

My trying to keep a humorous outlook about this is my best effort at preventing the guys in the ambulance with a dart gun loaded with Thorazine and the straight-jacket - away from my address.....

Do you mean that the louder you shout at it and the harder you hit it - the more attention and productivity you get from it?

No...tried that a long time ago. It works better if you feed it a peanut butter and jelly sandwich via the keyboard, and optical drive - then - because it will be thirsty then give it a drink of milk via the cooling vents nearest the power supply if you can. It will then reward you with a lot of pretty smoke - ( computer flatulence) and maybe some sparkly vagrant electrons will come out and dance for you too!

Thanks for the warning, I was wondering if I wanted to make the switch, now I know.
