As far as I know, the connection for an iPad will only receive sdhc cards, not compact flash.
If your iPad has sufficient storage it will work fine for your sdhc cards. Might be an easy solution for you. It does not work for me because my iPad is 64 GB and I shoot with both sdhc & cf cards.
Mark :)
Check out Amazon. There are several 3rd party modules that accept CF cards. I have one that works very well but has no brand name on it
have you considered usb sticks for storage 128 gb ones sell for around $30 - $40 in Ireland other EU pricing should be similar light but not too small and can be dropped without much fear of damage. The device you use for transfer could be anything.
post processing , do you really want to do that on holiday?
Don't know if this helps at all, but a related topic is SD Cards with WiFi capability (Google: eyefi) which set up a network between any camera and any device for WiFi download but they're a little more expensive. Works like chromecast. I know it doesn't answer your question but it's good to know.

Only if the camera has WiFi capability. Many don't. Some can use a seperate WiFi module, but many can't.

Although I've never used an Eye-Fi card, the advantage is that your camera doesn't have to be Wi-Fi enabled - it's all in the card.

Looking for a small laptop or tablet to take to Europe to review and store photos. Tried a Samsung tablet but it cannot store (backup) photos. What do you recommend.
I think it depends almost totally on whether you want to do any editing while on vacation. I personally do enjoy working a a couple of photos of the day, right before bedtime. It's better than watching TV and as soothing to me as reading a book. Usually my wife is writing in her trip diary while I am playing on the laptop.
If that isn't your thing, I think there are cheaper and definitely lighter weight alternatives. Many have been mentioned here.
I bought an ultra high-resolution 15" laptop just for this purpose last year. It performs fine, but I must mention one other drawback. Sometime last trip, it developed a "dead" line across the screen. I suspect that too many hours in the backpack and off and on planes doesn't help laptop reliability.

You are absolutely correct and I knew that. Blame it on the pain pills
