Hi - please, what is a sudo-4/3 sensor?

Lumix has a 4/3 sensor in their LX-100 that changes the pixel coverage depending on the aspect ratio chosen. This makes incomplete coverage of the lens image onto the active sensor pixels of the sensor is different and not up the spec they expound of 20 mp. Therefore, because of this trick, it's really a seudo- 4/3 sensor. Neither aspect ratio completely covers the full sensor and therefore makes photos having less than full 20mp resolution from the sensor.

Just checked the Amazon Prime sale--seems to be mostly a marketing gimmick. No real values on anything of interest, to me at least.

The LX-100 does have a 4/3 sensor but the complete sensor area is never fully implemented so it's not fully used in either aspect ratio chosen. Due to this trick, I call it a "SUEDO 4/3 SENSOR". You can advertise having a full frame sensor as well in a pocket sized camera just to outdo SONY's RX-100's 1" sensor, but when you only utilize less than half of it, then it's only a sales gimmik as far as I'm concerned.

Your criteria is quite good.
There's one pocket size camera that's an excellent fit for your criteria: the Canon G16 (which is selling at Amazon at #399, but could be lower today). I'm a dedicated Pentax DSLR user, but my pocket camera is the G16 (upgraded from the G9). The only two closest to the G16 would be the Nikon P7800 or the Fuji X30. But, the G16 is your best bet!!

I'm looking for a good pocket (shirt or side pants--or recommended belt case) camera to keep in the car and take to family events (situations where I don't want to lug my DSLR or my Canon SX50). Perhaps the size of a Canon A1400 (2.44x1.18x3.74 inches / 6oz). Gotta' be able to do my "Elaine dance" at weddings without having the camera fly away ;).

Required features:
Size & weight as above
Excellent build quality
Excellent images
Optical viewfinder
Some optical zoom (eg, 5X or so)
Decent battery life
Less than $500--Refurbished is fine

Desired features:
Raw capability
Good in low light
Reasonable macro capability

Irrelevant features:
Video/sound
Giant megapixel count
Quality of screen (rarely used)

I've already searched UHH and have found little information, in particular, on the optical viewfinder requirement. Plus, I often couldn't determine the camera size without looking it up.

By the way, Costco is having a "Black Friday" event this Wednesday (7/15/2015), and I as hoping to narrow the choices by then.

Personal choice of course, Canon G15, fits in cargo pocket, inside blazer pocket or even a windbreaker pocket, I have a inexpensive belt pouch or two that it fits in also, Bob

I'm pleased with my RX100 III from ebay, under $400, with a pop-up viewfinder, so can use it or not.

Panasonic ZS40 LUMIX with Leica lens shoots RAW and fits into a pocket. It takes great pics and video for a point and shoot

You have described the Canon Powershot G16. Check out the dpreview on the camera.

I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W170. Optical viewfinder, 10.1 megapixels and very small. Great photos.

You might be able to find one somewhere else for $500.

I'd also recommend the Nikon P7800...excellent IQ and loaded with options.

And so you never have to be bothered with a lens cap again - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HFI55N2/ref=pe_385040_128020140_TE_3p_dp_1

Another plus for the Canon A1400 is that it takes 2 AA batteries. No big battery investment and they are available everywhere. I wouldn't call the peep hole a real viewfinder; it does show you to what the camera is pointed.
