I have 24 - 105 which came with 6d
Isn't 35 in that range?
If not . . what is best 35 to buy for 6d?

Any advice on best overall prime lens to take?
I have Canon D6 and buying with retirement settlement so dollars no object.
Thx
For walking around, I use a zoom since I don't know what I will encounter. But I may carry a few primes too. I like the 20mm on a full frame camera and is the one I am most likely to want to have along.

You want a prime lens to use while touring Italy? Canon makes 4 lenses known as "tilt shifts". They are designed for photographing architecture and Italy is architecture. According to the-digital-picture.com the 24mm T/S is the sharpest wide angle Canon makes. The lens is also offered in 17, 45, & 90mms.

Gary, since you're taking a zoom anyway, my choice of a prime would be the Canon 50mm f1.4. It's small and light, so very easily carried.
I know you're asking as unlimited funds but the size outweighs the price for me.
Before I would consider something like a Sigma Art, I would them opt for the Canon f1.2. Once one is considering the size and weight of the 1.4 Art, personnaly I'd go with the faster 1.2 lens!
They are great for inside museums and for night shots.
And if I were to take ONLY two lenses they would definately be the 24-105 and the 50. Have a great time. ;-)

Just one lens? Does it need to be compact, low weight?
Lots of great choices, but I would seriously look at the new Sigma Art lenses, perhaps the 35mm 1.4. I would definitely opt for a wide angle lens, large aperture if you are limited to just one lens. I have the Sigma 50mm 1.4 and it is spectacular but too long focal length for a single prime IMO. For those who want a single prime, and truly compact size, I love my Canon 40mm pancake.

I have the 6D and for low light and wide angle I use the 24mm f2.8

Hey guys (gals)
Any suggestion on what prime lens to take while visiting Italy.
I have Canon 6D
I wouldn't take an important trip without zooming ability. Feet can't always put you in the right spot. If I were to take one prime (along with a zoom), it would be something wide, 14mm or less.

Zeiss makes a great "nifty fifty." For a standard prime, you can't go wrong.
I bit the bullet and purchased a Sigma 50 mm 1.4 ART and it is super great user in my opinion ! My next for walk around is Canon 24 x 105 f 4.o . It is not a fast lens so an increase in iso may be required on occasion but it lays down a very nice image ! Could possibly be the lens of choice for the trips !!

But thoght I'd take a prime as well.
Add a Samyang 14mm f/2.8 manual focus, they are super sharp and inexpensive.
Set the distance at 5ft and f/11; everything from about 1-1/2 ft to infinity is in focus.
Its not a big lens so it will travel well.
I have a 6D and find that the Canon 24-70 mm stays on it most of the time. It is good for both inside and outside photography and is especially good low light situations. The only drawback is its weight. Gets a bit heavy by the end of the day, but provides excellent images.
I am not a Canon user but the 6D is a full frame camera and my opinion is based on that fact.
I am quite sure that a 35mm lens would be a great choice. In my case I would take a zoom because of the convenience of several focal lengths built into the lens but that is me.
