Jupiter Venus conjunction

Here is the conjunction as imaged through an 11 inch Celestron telescope coupled with a 0.65 reducer/field flattener and a Canon 60Da camera. Exposure was 10 seconds at ISO 1000 and f/6.5
Jupiter is at top with four of it's moons. They are from left to right Ganymede, Europa, Io and Callisto. Venus is a thick crescent at bottom.
We had a blood red sunset and a lot of clouds. The high haze plus clouds made for a difficult imaging session and I was happy just to get this, giving what we had to shoot through!

Thank you Nikonian72. Yes, Venus was very bright and had that horrendous red glow around it, so did Jupiter but to a much lesser extent. The sun was blood red when it set tonight as was the moon. Some sort of dust, haze or smoke in the upper atmosphere. Haven't seen a sun that red in well over ten years from this location.

Love it!

I like the Galilean moons and the phase of Venus showing in the same frame.
Very cool.

Very nice! This is by far the best example I have seen posted. I have had cloudy nights for the past few nights, and not able to see this conjunction myself.

I have heard that the eastern US is actually getting dust blown from the Sahara desert , this according to a local television station. This may be contributing to the colors.

Thank you all for the nice comments. I haven't heard about the dust but that would account for the deep red sun and moon. It also made Jupiter and Venus very red and I had a hard time getting the red out, probably should have used Visine, lol. Venus looked normal under a long exposure but had this horrendous red halo glow around it that I did remove. Jupiter was very, very red if you tried to expose just enough to get the belts and cloud features on the planet, that is why it is overexposed and looks like a blank disc.

Nice shot! I'm not sure how low on the horizon they were when you shot them, but you do get that CA sometimes when the planet is low. I don't know why, though. But the pair came out very well!
