the same reason I shoot sony and pentax. if I could get all my money out of the cameras and lenses I now have, there is a canon and some of their lenses i'd like to play with.

Your reason, goldfad1, is a good as any. Enjoy your new camera in good health.

My reason was purely emotional and irrational. So there!!!
Yes, purely emotional and irrational.

Sounds like a lot of UHH'rs.

That is why there are the irrational and emotional discussions on products.

I bought my Nikon camera's also because of emotion. Simon and Garfunkel sang of having a Nikon camera. Don't take their Kodachrome away. Beautiful film. Beautiful camera's

I had a Nikon F and a Nikkormat FTn in junior high and high school. I sang that song in my head many times over the years when I didn't have a camera. When I decided to invest in a camera again, there was only one camera I was interested in. Bought my D3200 with the two kit lenses and then GAS took over and I am happy camper with my D610 and quite a few lenses, mostly primes. But maybe... just maybe... I might NEED a D810 soon...
My niece came to my parent's 60th wedding anniversary a week ago, I had heard she bought a camera. A cute little Canon Rebel! I knew a little about it from reading but had never held one. I told her she bought a great little camera, and she did. She loves it! This is one of the family pictures she took while I was there with her Rebel and it's pop up flash. I wish I had brought one of my slave flashes to bounce and even the exposure out, but I didn't that day.
I bought my camera on pure emotion and my desire to own a Nikon again. That was all the reason I needed and it works for me.

Happy 60th Wedding Anniversary, mom and dad! My niece's picture using her Canon Rebel.

My 82 year old mother and father both loved it, as did the rest of our family. And it broke open the door to my niece starting to talk to me about how to use her camera better. I ordered a Yongnuo YN-565EX 1/11 C with 4 enloops and a charger for her, she hasn't had a chance to try it yet. I know she doesn't have a lot of investment money for camera gear being young, single, and a mother of two boys. I heard that she bought her Rebel some time in March or April.

Well, don't know what to say to that. I'm just glad she will never see this discouraging comment. She is young, has no experience, very little knowledge of how exposure works, has never learned how to help pose people.... And I am glad that I am giving her encouragement and guidance, not you, sir.
I just bought a Nikon D7200 (whoopie!) and I'd like to tell you why I bought Nikon rather than Canon or a different brand.

Hello, Goldfad!! Your "reasons for buying Nikon" make as much SENSE as anyone elses reasons for buying ANYTHING. BUT... Your explanation of the why, is infinitely more honest and believable than the explanation of WHY , by others. oooorah!!! RJM

I don't know why you posted this. You posted someone else's picture, taken with a Canon, on a photography web site under a topic concerning Nikon cameras. It's mostly under-exposed, the lighting is uneven, the white balance is off, the composition is "snapshot", and the posing is random.

Now you admit that the photographer has all of the characteristics this picture implies.

The only thing to learn from this picture is what not to do, starting with not posting the thing in the first place. Too bad she won't see this; if she can't see what's wrong with her pictures she'll never know what to change in order to improve them.

But I am still left wondering why you posted it in the first place. I am obviously missing some subtle point.

JC your comment was insensitive and yes it was rude.

Do you really not understand that? Or are you just a troll trying to start an argument?

This thread lived quite a while, and it has been fun reading, but I think that now it is time to UNWATCH it.

wow... I guess maybe it was out of place, and it is not my photo. But this uncle is proud of his niece for getting into photography and I posted the pic because of my excitement over her new found love of photography. And I will show this to her, I want to warn her that, even in this beautiful medium and art form of photography, there are those who are less than positive, helpful, tolerant, in fact... They are downright obtuse. I don't understand why... But I once heard that people like that are trying to make other people feel the way that they, themselves, feel inside. Nice try, thanks for the laugh.

Your family looks like a lot of fun, I would treasure that picture if it was my bunch; it defiantly puts a smile on my face.

I massaged the light levels to brighten up those in the back ground.
