Why I Bought Nikon

I just bought a Nikon D7200 (whoopie!) and I'd like to tell you why I bought Nikon rather than Canon or a different brand.

When I was young, my father bought me a Taron 35, a Japanese (back when Japanese meant "cheap") 35 mm camera with only manual controls. I used a separate light meter to determine exposure settings. I fondly remember the years that camera took me on photographic adventures. Sigh.

Eventually I learned about SLRs and of course I wanted one. Now, in those ancient days THE rangefinder camera was the Leica (still is?) and THE SLR was the very expensive Nikon. I looked at pictures, catalogs, and salivated. So began my desire to have a Nikon SLR some day.

Now I have retired and it was time to by a DSLR. OF COURSE it was a Nikon. NOT for any technical reason. NOT because of any reviews. NOT for any issues relating to quality. I know that Nikon and Canon both produce marvelous cameras as do many other companies. They are all good today. (We are very spoiled!) My reason was purely emotional and irrational. So there!!!

I think possibly a much better reason for your choice than some....and honest  Now-a-days, it's very hard to go wrong with "any" of the main brands.

I went through the same history, but
Exacta was the first SLR I saw.
When I finally moved from rangefinder
I chose Canon, loved it for years,
had 4 bodies 10+ lenses.
Then digital sensors happened.
NONE of my Canon lenses would fit a Canon digital body.
I LOST MY LOVE FOR CANON! Have a great Canon museum.
Guess what I'm buying now? it starts with an N!

I love it when somebody dives into a camera brand for ALL THE WRONG REASONS....,
Yes, there are Fords and there are Chevys, but those are NOT cameras, so it's pretty stupid to use that analogy. But hey, it works if you know nothing about cameras!!
Enjoy whatever you have, as most are likely NEVER gonna find the limitations of any of them!!

Congratulations, you have an excellent camera that will take great to excellent photographs (depending on your skills) for many years. I would say about the same thing no matter what brand you bought.

Remember, the camera is only the tool, great photographs are made by who every is behind the camera!

I think his was a better method of decision making than listening to the Nikon v. Canon crowd, or is that the Canon v. Nikon crowd? :-)

Much better decision then asking in the forum which camera I should buy. How would anyone knows which is best for you except yourself?
