I just bought a Nikon D7200 (whoopie!) and I'd like to tell you why I bought Nikon rather than Canon or a different brand.

When I was young, my father bought me a Taron 35, a Japanese (back when Japanese meant "cheap") 35 mm camera with only manual controls. I used a separate light meter to determine exposure settings. I fondly remember the years that camera took me on photographic adventures. Sigh.

Eventually I learned about SLRs and of course I wanted one. Now, in those ancient days THE rangefinder camera was the Leica (still is?) and THE SLR was the very expensive Nikon. I looked at pictures, catalogs, and salivated. So began my desire to have a Nikon SLR some day.

Now I have retired and it was time to by a DSLR. OF COURSE it was a Nikon. NOT for any technical reason. NOT because of any reviews. NOT for any issues relating to quality. I know that Nikon and Canon both produce marvelous cameras as do many other companies. They are all good today. (We are very spoiled!) My reason was purely emotional and irrational. So there!!!

Much better decision then asking in the forum which camera I should buy. How would anyone knows which is best for you except yourself?

I'm not sure what lenses you have, but when you start thinking about lenses, consider looking at the 24-120mm f4. It covers a great range and is a nice sharp lens. It would give actually give you an angle of view of 36-180mm on your 7200.

Yes, there are Fords and there are Chevys, but those are NOT cameras, so it's pretty stupid to use that analogy. But hey, it works if you know nothing about cameras!!
Enjoy whatever you have, as most are likely NEVER gonna find the limitations of any of them!!

I have Nikons for one simple reason.....I didn't want to waste my time trying to take photographs with a potato.....I wanted a camera.

Not sure what you're trying to say here, SS. YOU'RE the only one so far to bring up the Ford-Chevy analogy!

Good for you, that is as good a reason as any to buy a Nikon. I have a similar Canon story and today no gloat, no glory and no regrets. If ignorance is bliss, so be it. Congratulations on your new Nikon.
