I wrote an email to a friend I haven’t seen since I left California. In the body of the email, I wrote that I was attaching pictures. I ended up dragging the images into the message, embedding them.
When I hit the send button, a box popped up the message “Your message says that you have attached images but no images are attached. Send anyway?
So is Gmail scanning my email for certain keywords? If I had written derogatory comments about our president, would my email get forwarded to the secret service?

I wouldn't worry, we haven't had a president for years now.

How can Gmail get away with that it is not their property to sell?
The NSA did not spend $1 Billion dollars on that facility just south of Salt Lake City for nothing.

Not so! With the man who is presently occupying the WH is not a president but a dictator-in-chief. I used to say "would be" but no more. The Congress just put the final nail in the coffin of America and the SCOTUS is now sending the coffin to the crematorium.

I know this may come as a shock, but gmail is not the only form of communications out there being monitored. To indicate that Goggle profits by selling gmail communications to the government is pure ignorance. The outrage of the government having the ability to track emails/internet communications is silly and narrow-minded (I'm sure I'll hear some negative feedback on that one from those who can't see the big picture). Imagine if the government was forced to stop any kind of monitoring? You could state your political opinions and nothing would happen to you - nothing would change. What freedom did one gain from that? The only thing that would change as a result of not allowing the government to protect it's citizens would be the bad guys would be free to plan and communicate their intentions to due harm to others and would be free to go on a killing spree all across the country. But that would okay right? since you would truly be free right?

Unfortunately you are right, all "bad" guys have more rights than victims and targets, liberal thinking!

GMail has recently set some parameters to preclude files that could contain virus's. Image files are among them. They will also not accept attachments ending in .exe, .pif, and some others.

Hackers have some time ago, broken into jpeg, and jpg file extensions, so not surprised at what you experienced.

Frankly, those sorts of security changes in eMail are fueling sites like Dropbox, which most people consider as primarily for large files transfers. Not necessarily.

Ease of transferring image files is being reduced in the effort to foil the hackers. Naturally, the average person pays the price in loss of convenience.

Expect it to get worse.

I send an email to a friend but forgot to put a subject on it. A box pop up that said I am sending an email without a subject.
Send anyway?

If you read Google's terms of service,by using it they about basically become the owners of (or at least licensed to use) just about all data you put thru their services. Nobody ever really reads this stuff, but it's in there!
