It's built in to the newest Lightroom. You select the shots, press the buttons and get out of the way. What is different from anything I know of is that it can all be done in RAW, start to finish with .DNG file as the output.

Microsoft's Image Composition Editor (ICE) is a free download and has a straightforward interface that works REALLY well.

To read a tutorial on how to create a panorama using this software, go to http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-282385-1.html

I do like getting a DNG as the output.

Hugin rocks at panoramas & other cool stuff. It's free.

That's rather strange that you find PS on lower end for doing Pan's. I have found it the opposite, although a bit cumbersome to some of the other software options and in camera pano's offered today.

The way I found best to do it in photo shop is to bring the files in as separate files working left to right.

Then I overlay one file to top of the first file, making each on a separate layer.

Then in the Edit selection I "Auto-Align them.

The last step is " Auto Blend" .

I don't know how you do it. But I rarely have a problem.

Panorama and HDR features on the new Lightroom CC worked for me like a charm on the FIRST TRY!

My first try was 6 sets of 5 bracketed photos, or 30 total. Each set was processed in the LR HDR process. Then the 6 resulting photos, were combined for the panorama. It was all handheld and LR managed to align them.

I'd post the result, but my understanding is that it is rude to the OP to do so without consent.

I use AutoPano Gigga from KOLOR software. Pricy but does an excellent job.

www.kolor.com

For grins and giggles I stitched a 112 image file in under 20 minutes with no issues what so ever on a Lenovo high end lap top.

Why?

All (I think) other pano software gives you an image file - not raw.

Photoshop is decent. LR is pretty good as well, and it gives you a DNG file, which I like better than an image file for additional editing in LR.

PT/GUI is as good as it gets - it gives you total control and output with less distortion than the others. It gives you 16 bit TIFF files.

Hugin is ok - I don't like it as much as the others. Maybe I would like it better if I used it more.

Nice tutorial. Yes, ICE works well and is free. Hard to beat that.
