I guess that saves on R&D. They just need a few stylists. :D
At Apple, the designers are paid more than the engineers.
Some Contax cameras were styled by the Porsche Design studio.

For those with severe GAS, Hasselblad is offering an FF 24MP DSLR with a 24 - 70 lens for only $4000. The price was formerly $12,000. About the same size as a Nikon. Tough looking!
Carrying that name it's got to be one of the best on the planet. On the other hand if you'd like to finance it for me... hey I'll order one today! Whatdayasay?

is that true?? , Jerry??
And most of Leica's digital cameras are Panasonics, even made in Japan, just cosmetic changes and higher price. The Panasonics have Leica lenses, made in Japan. I read an article that even the Leica film cameras that are still made in Germany have Japanese made glass. If you have a good factory making good products and it has the capacity to fufill demand, why have a second plant? It just increases costs.

It doesn't look tough. Just over priced like all HB gear. I,ve owned enough of my share of HB over the past 30 years to know. Ziess lenses, on the other hand, are another story. Those, while pricy, are lifetime investments in world class optics. HB bodies are nothing special, and depreciate like mad.

I remember when Pentax had a 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 film camera built just like a regular 35mm camera. I'm waiting for a medium format dslr built like a regular Nikon dslr.
They also made a 2 1/4 X 2 3/4 --- Think of the number 67...

Check out the Pentax 645Z!
I really like my Sony SLT-a99.

$2k for a full-frame body and $2k for the lens is about right....actually less than my Nikon D800 and 24-70 cost.
For that price, the 'blad version would be great for an "image enthusiast"
They both look like a DSLR on anabolic steroids.
I think it may be a bit more than that. It's got the Sony sensor and logic,
but materials, ergonomics, and lens (Zeiss) are different arn't they?

Of course, the packaging is worth more than the product as of late.
Goes for people too.

Yep.
The Zeiss lens focuses in the opposite direction of the Nikon!
(I have used Zeiss glass in several medium format cameras.)

Guess I will stick with my Canons and Sigmas.
Hello, Robertjeri!! I liked canon, for awhile, but canon lenses of any real quality, seemed drastically OVER-PRICED. I have always tried to get my $$$$ s worth. "Blad and leica, isnt it". I'm for great Pentax, and Pentax GLass. For what I have in pentax glass, I would have had to spend, 40K for what I have in PENTAX at 16K. RJM

Zeiss makes lenses for Sony too. In fact, they have been designing lenses together for years. ;)

Cat,
This brings to mind the competition between the American Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, and Japans Honda Motor Company Motorcycle division.
In the thick of the decades long battle, Honda did everything to tear down the V-twin engine design of Harley-Davidson's.
And in an interesting turn of desperation, Honda finally came out with their own version of a V-Twin engine, and the "sauce" for this baked crow was that their design was superior for Bla, Bla, Bla, reasons...
But we knew it was, "If you can't beat them, Join them."
Enter a Hasselblad DSLR...
Something this bottom dweller (and Harley enthusiast) will only look upon with a mild passing amusement. ;)
And God Bless the the boys and girls to whom this would be yet another gold button on their blazer to raise eyebrows at highbrow garden parties and receptions. ;)
