Ol' Frank Loc: Orlando,

For my general everyday use I carry my Nikon D7000 with a Sigma 18-250 HSM and Optical Stabilizer. A Nikor 50 mm 1.8 is usually in my pocket. Usually everything else stays in the bag in the car.

I own a Canon 50D, which I purchased in February. Since then, I bought a couple used lenses. Out of the four that I currently own, I probably have used the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 and the Tokina 80 - 200mm f/2.8 the most. I have not purchased the more expensive lenses yet, as I am still developing my skills. What are your 2 favorites?

Currently the Nikon 28-300 f3.5-5.6 and the 300 f/2.8 w/TC14E II (subject to change at a moments notice).

Seriously, it depend on what I'm photographing.

On my OLY OMD EM1, the equivelant of the Nifty-Fifty is the Leica 25mm f1.4, and the Wideangle MZuiko 12mm f2.0 are my two favorites----

On my Olympus E-PL5, the Oly 25mm f/1.8 and the adapted Canon FD 50mm f/1.8 are the ones I use for more serious stuff.

I can only pick two??? Lately I've been using my D610 with my Lester A. Dines 105mm f/2.8 macro and my Nikon 500mm f/4P with the 1.7 tc on it. Subject to change at any moment, though!

1. The Nikkor AFS VR 55-300. It's my best lens. Has some flaws but at $230 the price was right. On a Nikon 1 J1 dslr give an 810mm equivalent focal length, on a D3100 gives a 450mm equivalent focal length. Auto focuses on the J1 with an FT1 f-mount adapter, which cost more than the lens.
2. The manual Cambron 500mm f-8 telephoto and CPC 2x Teleconverter.
On the D3100 gives a 1500mm equiv. focal length. On the J1 it gives a 2700mm focal length-basically a 54x telescope.

For general use my two favorites are a Sigma 18-300 and Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6. For shooting at the local zoo, which I do a lot, my favorites are a Sigma 50-150 f/2.8 II HS (the older non-OS lens) and Sigma 17-50 f/2.8. A lot of the zoo is indoors and the speed is essential.

If I'm carrying 2 lenses for my Nikon D7000 it would most likely be the Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 and the Nikkor AF-S 70-300mm F/4.5-5.6. But my 2 favorites would be the Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 and my Nikkor 80-200mm F/2.8.

Lately, my 2 favorites are the EF70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II and the EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS II. I keep the 70-200 on my 6D and the 100-400 on my 7DII. Their IQ is outstanding. Especially the 70-200.

I second this opinion! For image quality, you can't beat the 70-200mm 2.8L IS II.

robrory - your two favorites are similar to those using f/2.8 lenses in the 24-70 and 70-200 ranges. I couldn't limit myself to just two lenses, but if I was ever forced to just keep one, it would be my 135 f/2L (and then I'd just start getting more again ....)

May I answer with one? On my old Canon T2i and my present 70D it's my old, trusty Canon 18-135. I may upgrade to the new one someday but still gives me great pictures.

My #1 is the venerable Canon 24-105. Matched with either the Canon 70-200, or the Canon 100-400 you have a versatility that is hard to match. All are EF lens and so work on FF or crop.

I have the Canon 24-105 and the 17-40MM. In the overlapping ranges the 17-40 blows the 105 away. That said, the 105 is solid walking around lens.
