This is a test of your self-control. Can you resist making jokes about the quality of one brand over another?
I watch NCIS and NCIS,LA. Both shows use Nikons to take photos of evidence. CSI uses Nikons, too. Last night I was watching NCIS, LA, and the Canon with that large WHITE lens was unmissable. I'll be watching to see if NCIS also made the switch.
There's big bucks in product placement. I guess Nikon knows it will make so much money from the new D800 and D4 that it doesn't need exposure on TV.

In a former life, I worked as a medical diagnostic tech, and most of our optical equipment used Nikon film camera attachments. I did my externship at LAC/USC Hospital, and sometimes worked with forensic investigators, who also used Nikon film equipment. This was when Nikkor macro lenses and Nikon medical ringflash systems dominated the field.
It would be interesting to poll local forensic specialists to find-out what agency-owned systems are now popular.
Remember that shows like CSI employ (usually retired) former investigative specialists for technique and equipment accuracy. They will recommend the same kind of equipment they used when still actively employed, even if it was 10-years ago.

You can bet they don't have multiple copies of the Nikon D3x that I saw on CSI NY.

I would bet they use whatever equipment they're getting paid to use as was stated above product placement has become very popular in the entertainment world.

Lots of shows have been using Nikons, and I bet Canon wanted in on that action. The studios must love having companies in bidding wars.
When they get all the gear connected to the DSLR, it's hardly recognizable. It seems there are advantages over using a video camera, aside from cost. Probably bragging rights for Canon.
I noticed that also. Hard to miss the big white lens.
It's all about the money.

I had forgotten about product placement. Maybe that's why Dexter shoots Canon with a Nikon strap.

Hi jerryc41: I to noticed the Canon camera and lens. I kept trying to make out the body they were using. I also noticed in one of the shows CSI, NCIS or one of them a flash ring but could not identify the mfg on that one. I find it interesting the various brand names that show up in movies and on television. In one old movie I even spotted Amway products, if memory serves me correctly in the new movie "Act of Valor" I spotted a Canon Camera there too. Like some one said it's all about money.
And that episode looked great!

And accuracy. I
hate seeing a camera on TV with the named black-out.

That used to be the norm, but now the camera makers are paying to have their products displayed. I wrote to Nikon and told them that I would gladly wear a D800 around my neck 24/7. I haven't heard from them yet. Maybe tomorrow.
I recently saw The Big Year with Steve Martin and Jack Black. Every camera I saw in the movie was a Nikon except one. It was an Olympus. I wonder if the movie company had a sponsorship through Nikon? I just watched The Tower Heist with Ben Stiller. He was using a camera in a few scenes but they had the camera brand blacked out.
Makes my wonder. If either of these two movies was produced by Sony pictures, would they have been using Sony cameras?.
