There is Corel's competition for LR, After Shot 2(reg $40 - $27 on sale now) and After Shot Pro 2(Reg $80 - $55 on sale now). I have seen posts here and there of people who like it very much. Here is PC Magazine's review: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2304652/corel-aftershot-2-pro-review--photo-editor-a-formidable-competitor-to-adobe-lightroom.html

I am thinking about trying it since I am having trouble getting used to Photo Shop due to using Paint Shop Pro X* for about 10 years and the Photo Paint module of Corel Draw before that back to the 90's. Trying to get used to PS for the close tie in with LR and the better compatability with plug-ins, esp NIK which I like.
If I am going to stick with Paint Shop it would make sense to use After Shot for the compatability. The plug ins would still be a bother.
I suppose I could throw $$$ at the problem and buy/use all four and learn to switch back and forth for the different features etc. But that seems both expensive and complicated.

Oh, one thing I learned after I got the trial of PS/LR 6, the problem with the new LR files if I go back to LR 5.7. The idea of losing all my edits during the trial if I decide not to keep it does not make me think kindly of Adobe. Anyone know if those stories are correct, or if someone has come up with a way to revert to LR 5.7?

I'm on that same page you are!! Different strokes for different folks and that's just based on my hobbyist status as a photographer, if I were earning $$ from it I may view it differently.

I will second that...

What you wrote is correct but if you have the stand-alone version, you can decide if it is sufficient for your purposes.

Yes, and with Adobe products, you can do that for free.

How is that Gene.. If I upgraded from LR4 to LR6 via download at $79.00 a good deal, but I wanted the standalone version so I popped for $142.00. For A one year rental at $120.00 yes I paid more, but I don't upgrade for at least two years or more..lets see standalone $142 verses $220 for two yr sub, hmm. Adobe is going to make ALLOT more money now and keep us HOOKED for ever.

Don't forget, you get (what used to be) a $700 application to boot. Photoshop is included in that $120 subscription.

Its certainly is a great deal IF you want and will use both. I use mostly Lightroom and when I need it I use Elements 13 as a backend to it. I personally don't have the time or interest for the very steep learning curve needed to master PS. So for me, the Lightroom standalone update for $79 was a better deal. If, as some have suggested, this is the last standalone version Adobe will publish I will have to reevaluate my approach to PP at some time in the furure.

I agree 100%, the only difference is that I use Perfect Photo Suite 9.5 to do what Lightroom does not.
