[quote=RWR][quote=wj cody] stunning lenses (mostly minolta rokkors) ...
Quote:

None of the few lenses Minolta made for the Leica R were off-the-shelf - they underwent extensive modifications to meet Leica's specifications. The Vario-Elmar-R 28~70mm f/3.5-4.5 was made by Sigma, again to Leica specifications.

very true, but the glass was always rokkor, and none of the rokkors were ever fitted to zoom lenses. all of rokkor glass was reserved for the prime lenses. and they are more than a "few" lenses. as for the cladding of the glass, this is what was manufactured to e leitz' specifications, not the glass or element configurations.
hope this s of assistanct to you.

The 35~70 f/3.5, 80~200 f/4.5 and 75~200 f/4.5 Vario-Elmar-Rs were Minolta designs and manufactured for Leica in Osaka with Minolta glass. Of the Leica branded prime lenses, I am only aware of the original Fisheye-Elmarit-R 16mm f/2.8 and 800mm f/8.0 as being of Minolta manufacture. The 24mm f/2.8 Elmarit-R was designed by Minolta and they supplied the elements - it was manufactured at the Leica plant in Solms.

I wonder if you experts could give me some information on a Tokina 800mm, f/8.0. It is 29" long and its serial #is 81000863. I am able to attach it to the D800E (I attach image of foliage). It looks like a lens from the 1970's and has a closest distance of 60". I purchased it a few years back from a reputable camera store for $300 but it doesn't appear to be junk, its pictures are quite sharp.

Thanks very much, you are an EXPERT! It is quite clear that only two long lenses, the 600 and 800mm, were made in the early 1970's and traded as Tele-Tokina, which is exactly what mine says. I am happy to have it for $300!!

You got a good deal. I have a 600 f/5.6 Kilfitt that I need to put a Nikon mount on. I like those old blunderbusses. For certain subjects the ED lenses give a too-clinical look. Enjoy! :)

I agree wholeheartedly about the unnatural manipulation of light, it's too much. I learned something new from you: I have never heard of Kilfitt before!
