I hear a sound. I look toward where I'm hearing the sound. Then I see a chipmunk's head emerging from a hole in a tree trunk. After this shot, park employs came by on a tractor.
The first photo has only been cropped and sharpened.
The second is the original shot I took. It too has been sharpened.
Manual Mode: ISO 200, 280mm, f10, 1/250
What could I have done to make this a better shot?
Chipmunk Checking for Safety
I enjoyed your photos, love critter pics.
You were lucky to get him to hold still long enough to get the shot. Good work.

Thank you. I thought it looked a little dark.

Thanks. I was surprised he stood looking out the hole as long as he did, especially when I heard the tractor so near. So I kind of rushed to get the picture.
#1 looks good to me too. I got a shot of a critter coming out of a hole on the pacific coast hwy and I never could get it to show up in the reddish/brown dirt as much as I wanted. I think it's just the backround colors are too close to the critter color.
yes u need to be super fast with any critter, great captures

Thanks, I think you are right. Everything is pretty much the same color in the woods at this time of year and the chipmunk's coloring does blend right in. It's just that I could see the difference in coloring with my eyes better than the camera lens did.

Thank you. Sometimes I am successful and sometimes I am too slow and miss the shot.
Excellent shots! Chipmunks have to be one of the cutest animals on the face of the earth!

Thank you, Swamp Gator. Wow! A compliment from a photographer whose bird pictures I admire. And I agree with what you said about chipmunks.
