Earlier I replied that I have version nine of PortraitPro. I see a lot of discussion as to how it creates an un-natural image. I thought perhaps a better reply would be a pair of images, one in which PortraitPro was used and the same image before.

Background: the couple in the picture have been extremely close family friends for more than 50 years. The wife now is afflicted with dementia. When I took this picture, the husband started to cry. I wanted to send them a print of the photo, but I wanted it not to show so much emotion. This was not a photo shoot, just a gathering of old friends.

How good a job I did changing his expression I'll leave up to you to judge. Just look at the photo to judge the software's ability. Do you think the people look un-natural?

The couple don't look unnatural, but the photos are quite underexposed.. You may want to run the photos thru Lightroom or Photoshop to see if you can better the overall exposure in both photos..

Thank you for replying, but I disagree with your criticism this time.

Please don't take my critiquing of those two photos to be anything more than my opinion about the exposure given to just those two photos ~ because, when looking at many of your other photos, it can be seen that you know your stuff and that you provide high quality work !

The issue with Portrait Pro is that it does destroy texture, unlike certain techniques in Photoshop that clearly don't. Liquify tool handles things like adjusting expressions, devolumizing, etc etc. without the need of a standalone app or a plugin.

Portrait Pro's primary strength is speed to result - nothing I have tried gets these results with as little effort. It's weakness is that if use a moderate application of skin softening, it destroys texture. So I only use it for proofs and not final work.

Tried it on my wife's picture.... even made her eyes a little more open. Forgot again to show original for download.

Does anyone use PortraitPro the software that keeps showing in ads on UHH forum? What's your experience?

I used to use it, but was never happy with the Gumbi textures that would result. I get far better results with careful editing. I defy anyone to come up with results like this using Portrait Pro.

I think you're overlooking the primary selling point of PortraitPro..... ease of use. I'm not about to get into some process that requires a lot of effort, layer manipulation etc. Of course I'm not a professional either. After using the trial, I did purchase PortraitPro several years ago and use it very sparingly, but for someone like me the ease of use is what I like. There have been a few upgrades since I purchased and I understand they have some nice new features, but I don't it often enough to upgrade.
