I want to buy a Nikkor 50mm manual f/1.4 or f/1.8 lens.
This will be for experimental reverse-mounting on a DIY "extension tube with diaphragm" made from my 45-yo Nikkor 135mm pre-Ai f/2.8 lens (with ALL optics removed). You can read about the conversion here: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-282612-1.html

Let me look in my collection as I have that focal length in both MF &AF mounts.. Actually, with reverse mounting, the make doesn't matter

I have the last version of the MF AiS F1.8 Nikkor. Serial # starts with 416 which means made between 85 & 2005 according to Roland Vinks site,,,... Interested ?

Douglass you don't want to use your pre Ai 135mm lens as it will harm your D90. If you look at the lens used in the project you sited it is a Ai lens. You may not even be able to remove the pre Ai lens from your camera and require a repair Tech to remove it. You could pick up a off brand 135mm in Ais configuration on eBay or KEH.

It sounds like an interesting project. JB

Honeywell Pentax f1.4 lens has an excellent reputation and in m42 screw mount they are not in great demand. It may be worth your consideration.

I think he's mounting it on a D5200, not a D90. No damage done mounting a pre AI nikkor on a D5200. Mounting it on a D90 would foul the AI follower tab

I may dedicate my D5000 (12Mp) to this modified "auto-aperture" extension tube.
I normally use my D5200 (24 Mp) with my Nikkor 105G, but it is also available.

True.
I will be reverse-mounting to the Nikkor 135-mm carcass, which is a 52-mm filter mount. A Nikkor 50-mm is also a 52-mm filter mount, allowing for a simple reversing ring with no step-down.

If you are only experimenting, you are welcome to borrow either my Nikkor 50mm f1.4 or f1.8AF before you buy or until you find one, if you like.

You may also borrow the reverse adapter if you don't already have one.

I also have a Zykkor 28mm f2.8 to loan you if you want to get really crazy

I would like to borrow your 50-mm lens. I have a bunch of reversing rings, so I need to search for a 52-to-52. I own a Nikkor 28-mm, but it is NOT an f/2.8, which would be desirable.

Which 50? f1.4 or f1.8AF?

Oh duh! you need the male threads on both ends...correct?:? I only have the one for the camera body-to-52 and a 72 to 52 lens to lens thread.

The f/1.4, as I do not need A-F reversed. My 135-mm lens carcass is 52-mm threads, as is the 50-mm lens.

I'll give you a call on my way to work Monday if I go in. I haven't been feeling well this weekend.
