I finally got a partially clear night. Light overcast.
The moon was shot with Nikon D800E w/Tamron 150-600mm @ 550mm
f/8, 1/60 sec, ISO 100
The Venus shot I used, Nikon D800E w/Tamron 150-600mm w/ 2 2x Teleconverters @ 2200mm
f/13, 1/125, ISO 6400

Hi Erv, Thank you and it was pretty fun to see the Moon again.
The Venus shot was unguided with 2 TCs at a really high ISO.
I can see a little trail. What are your thoughts for shooting Planets with that Lens???

I haven't tried it to much yet. I have stacked the 3 TC's and played a little in the yard. I did the 80-400 and the 150-500. So far the 80-400 has been sharper. But not by much. And the tripod is a must for me.:) Sure wish it would warm up a little.:)

Mars is in there just a tiny little dot below to the right if you magnify all the way in.

Great shots, Craig.
I did find Mars in the last one of Venus.

I have to go try again, maybe tonight, if the clouds cooperate. :hunf:

I've been looking at this Dark Sky map and it appears there are some dark skies near me to take a little drive to.
Might have to pack up the stuff and wander up the canyon...

Nice series Craig... you and Erv were lucky to have a clear night... the best night I have had in the last 3 weeks was a thin cloudy night when you could just make out the Moon through the heavy haze/thin clouds... not worth attempting a shoot... if there were any clear nights here I must have been busy and missed them... :(

thanks for looking in Bruce. That's the problem here in Calif to much clear skies, not enough rain.
We got a little today .25", 2.75" total for the year.

Thank you, Craig. That's a terrific shot of the moon. The 36MP shows the crater shadows and details very well. I am hoping that my new future Canon 5Dsr will also show that much detail. Thank you for sharing this.

OMG YES at 50mp you'll be the first Earth based photographer to shot pics of the Flag on the Moon.

Graig, I don't think it will be much better than your 36MP Nikon 810E because the ISO's for the new Canon 5Dsr are not as high as your Nikon's. I will have to wait and see. One of the reasons I get good moon detail with the Canon 6D at 20.2MP is because the higher ISO's help resolve the detail.

Regis and everyone. How high of an ISO do you shot the Moon?

Hi Craig, rank amiture here...
I checked on one of mine.
http://static.uglyhedgehog.com/upload/2014/9/9/1410240110120-dsc_0509.jpg

It shows an ISO of 400.
But that has a shutter speed of 1/200 sec; and an f/25.

Personally, I like a little white on my moon. Looks more real to me.
Please refer back to my first sentence....
